I was wondering if anyone found a match to L31B Mars Red. I have a little temporary touch-up to do I would prefer not to get a small batch of Duracryl mixed. |

I see a number of people looking for L90D Pastel White. My bus is this color and I've done a bit of research and planning on testing a couple soon. The two closest matches I've narrowed it down to based on info I've found is:
Rustoleum Painter's Touch Ivory Bisque
Rustoleum Antique White
I'm going to try both soon and report back. |
OK, so I found a can of Antique White at my local Walmart (which, surprisingly had a better selection than Lowes. Can't seem to find Ivory Bisque or Canvas White anywhere locally.
We have rain in the for cast for the next couple days. I don't have a garage so I'm going to have to wait for some nicer weather. Will post some results soon. _________________ Visit the Vintage Volkswagen Parts & Tech Wiki today!

Has anyone found a match for Cobalt Blue L630? Really interested in stripping the primer off to get to the OG paint, but I know there are probably some Bondo spots that would need touched up. If I knew there was a match for Cobalt Blue I think I'd start tonight... _________________ 1969 VW Bug - 1600 on a 5" narrowed beam |

My local Home Depot doesn't seem to carry Ivory Bisque. Instead they have an Ivory Silk that looks very close. Perhaps they changed the name?

Does anyone have any pics of a comparison of these colors to L282? My spare tire compartment needs fixin'. _________________ Marius Strom Otto: 1988 Vanagon Syncro Westy Camper

I read all through this thread but didn't see a match in kylon or any other brand of paint for Neptune Blue. I have a 78 vw riviera camper bus. I am fixing rust spots prior to a full paint job and I was hoping to find a fairly close match even though the original paint is pretty faded. _________________ If you only have one tool in your tool box, and it's a hammer, pretty soon, everything looks like it needs to be whacked!

I can attest that I am reasonably satisfied with the match of Krylon's Bahama Sea to Neptune Blue (L50K), which is a color used on bay window buses, like my '78 double cab. The Bahama Sea is a bit light, but close enough for touching up on this working truck that already has many shades of blue on it.
The full name is:
Krylon Bahama Sea Blue Interior/Exterior Decorator Spray Paint - 53549 |
I have been searching Samba for a Krylon match for Neptune Blue. Thanks for posting this last year. I am going to buy some right now for my 78 vw Riviera. _________________ If you only have one tool in your tool box, and it's a hammer, pretty soon, everything looks like it needs to be whacked!

Good stuff in here. But I have a question:
For my '65 Beetle, Ruby Red, I got a set of original wheels I wanna use. Thinking of powder coating the black part, and scuffing/painting the "outer" part. The Samba reference says the outer part was Pearl White, as does the reference on Wolfburg West's website. But the "Birth Certificate" I got from the Stiftung AutoMuseum says: "wheel rim L 289 Blue White."
Why am I a little skeptical of the certificate?
Is my plan of powder coating black, then painting the outer part good?
Thanks! |

Oh, and while I'm at it . . .
What color for the backside of my original bumpers?
What color for the bumper brackets and overrider support tubes?
Preesh! |

I also want to repaint the pastel blue 61. Any Rattle can matches on this one? And I dont think they make a patina spaltter to match its current condition. |

I performed test between Krylon Satin Jade (left patch) and Dupli Color Detroit Diesel Alpine Green (right patch) on my own '64 deluxe, to determine which is closer to L380 Turquoise.
It was no shocker that neither is a match, but Krylon Satin Jade is easier on the eyes and it has the advantage of a satin finish that is closer to unshiny, aged paint. If you need something that covers bare metal until proper paint, the Krylon just might do.
Either paint can be removed by wet-rubbing with a scouring pad.
