what I have found is the last few cans of jade and honeydew were different than the first cans I used at the beginning of this thread. As you show the jade is a bit lighter these days and in the pic below you can see the honeydew is a bit more beige than green
Batches seem to vary quite a bit but I will admit that there is no exact match to unworn original paint.
When I tried the detroit it was no where near as dark as your pic. I wonder if the shades vary for duplicolor as well. |

I performed test between Krylon Satin Jade (left patch) and Dupli Color Detroit Diesel Alpine Green (right patch) on my own '64 deluxe, to determine which is closer to L380 Turquoise.
It was no shocker that neither is a match, but Krylon Satin Jade is easier on the eyes and it has the advantage of a satin finish that is closer to unshiny, aged paint. If you need something that covers bare metal until proper paint, the Krylon just might do.
Either paint can be removed by wet-rubbing with a scouring pad.

The right side might be close to the Bus color Velvet Green? _________________ How to Post Photos

Even though this in not Krylon and you actually have to use a gun to shoot it I thought I would add it to this thread as another cheap alternative with a few close matches. Single stage and around $100 with free shipping sounds great to me!
Saw this thread and then searched the summit site for different colors

Im going to order the candy apple red which looks like L456 Ruby Red and let you know
Just going by the chip sheet looks like there might be a few other potential matches
Candy Apple red - L456 Ruby Red
Wimbledon White - L282 Lotus White
Bright White - L82 Silver White
Merlot - L555 Titian Red
Wild Pomegranate Red - L258 Inca Red poly
Mocha Frost - L243 Diamond Gray poly
Bright Aqua Pearl - L360 Sea Blue 1
Ultra Blue Pearl - L360 Sea Blue 2
Carbon Fiber - L329 Shetland Gray poly
Ill order the chip sheet when I order the paint and match directly to my PPG chip sheets to get a better idea. |

Not Krylon, but Ace Hardware
Navajo White is close to 82 Vanagon Ivory. Wheel wells and engine compartment matched well. Would also work on temporary rust repair, but the spot will be visible as it is just a shade lighter. _________________ 71 tintop westy

Funny story about L456 ruby red, i got a can of ZeroRust red to do some repair jobs on my square , when i was running low i ordered another can. They shipped me safety red. I didn't car it was going under the car anyways, But i was spraying one day and used up the last of the red and mixed the safety red in 50/50.
Body panels are stock L456, as is inside of the trunk lid, but top of the fender, inside the trunk are 50/50 zero rust reds. It made a very good match for touch ups on the original color too.

So today I went through the spray can aisle at Menards looking at colors. I chose Rustoleum Canvas White. Resprayed the area tonight and found I was much happier with that one. It is still not a match, but it's much closer. |
reviving this thread haha -- Im looking for a close match to Lotus White for my outer wheels (67 Ruby) and the proper grey-black for the inner wheels (that isnt too shiny)
anyone know of a rust-o-leum match for these ?
Wheel disc (center) LD43 Grey-black
Rim (outer) color L282 Lotus white

Not a bad match. A little playing with the undercoat and I think it could be even closer.
The light's funky in the shot and I can't roll it out yet but it looks darn good in person.... after five cans of "test" paint.

So I've looked through the whole thread and have not seen L464 slate and L471 stone beige? It is going to be for a set of smoothie wheels for a '61 Bug. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

A clarification - those are my photos from the oval forum, the Krylon Satin Italian Olive was the closest match I could find for my L-213 Iceland Green '55 (not L11 as AlteWagen wrote). _________________ If all else fails, stop using all else

I'm looking for a close match of the L29 gray-blue used on early Beetle fuel tanks and other parts. Has anybody found anything close enough to use? Or is everybody just getting paint mixed at a local shop? _________________ A few '56s, a '64, and some late model stuff. |

I read thru this whole thread yesterday. And then went to Lowes and Home Depot. Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy Almond (which was recommended as a stronger finish - either in this thread or another I read) looked ok. But Biscuit looked better for matching to an Ivory steering wheel. I think I'm gonna give that a try. Unless someone has a better suggestion?
Anyone know where you can still get grey steering wheels though for a type 1 mid 60's? I'm struggling between changing everything over to grey or ivory. It's a black type 1 and I'm putting an off white interior in it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

As I said in those PMs we traded the other day, the new Silver Beige steering wheels have become scarce - you still see Ivory ones but that was not a color that VW actually used for steering wheels in the 1960s. I had been contemplating replacing the steering wheel in my 62 a few months ago and found that the proper Silver Beige color was showing to be sold out or out of stock everywhere I looked... Except Wolfsburg West:
