Ok, My fault for lack of specificity.
The best book that is not as expensive as a shop manual....stupid shoestring budget. _________________ 59' 356 some day project

Perhaps I should just not be posting this early in the A.M.
I have an old idiot's guide. I was just curious if there was some other super secret really good book out there. The bentley book is just as $$ as the shop manual on amazon! If I am stuck with the idiot's guide then so be it.

| You'll spend more time and money screwing things up without the Bentley than if you bite the bullet and spring for one. Just my 2c. |

the bentley is a fantastic resource, if you were only going to buy one book it is the one to have... if you are looking for more above and beyond the Idiots guide it is Either the Bentley or a CLymers/Haynes type manual that don't offer anything close to the bentley.
Sell blood/plasma at a place that pays, two weeks and you'll have a Bentley.
sell some stuff you don't need on eBay, etc you can scrounge the dough.
and trust me, I am a super cheapskate. I splurged on the Bentley and haven't looked back, it has been worth every cent. _________________ Josh

sell what you don't need on www.barnfresh.com and buy the Bentley.
barn fresh is owned by a vw bus guy and a partner. he is Justin of Heil Machine Co. cheaper than ebay by far. _________________ 1965 panel bus-Kermit

The Bentley Manual IS the one on the amazon link above.
It is cheap for what you get, and you don't have to hunt down a rare original copy.
It is handed to you on a platter. |

the originals we used at dealership were seperate for each area of vw. for instance brakes, or engine or etc. they were 4 ring loose leaf binders.
the Bentley is all areas printed and bound into 1 book. i took my bentley apart and put each section in plastic sheets thingies and used 3 ring binders. the only difference is original copies had colored wiring diagrams while bentley is black and white. at $50-$150 for each section used it would cost maybe $1000 for original set or even more. the Bentley is "da bomb"
so "Yes" volkswagen was original author. Bentley has permission from vw to reprint copies of original vw books.. _________________ 1965 panel bus-Kermit

I bought a Bentley manual off of eBay, a few years ago, and I keep it in my bedroom.
Over the last 25 years, I have been using Clymer's transporter manual. I am on my third one, having bought all of them used. I used them so often, I wore the first two out. I lucked out and got the last one at a used book sore for $10 plus tax. The manual is very organized and has plenty of information and pictures. If you need a lot of technical information, though, you need to get Bentley's manual.
I never liked the "idiot" manual because it is so disorganized and it doesn't have pictures in it. _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |

Heh.
Actually, about all I seek in the Muir book is another look at the exquisite quality of Peter 'Juniperus Scopulorum' Aschwanden's work.

So does a person need both the 50-62 and the 63-67 ? _________________ 63 15 window deluxe Turkis walk through 1500

I use the "Clymer VW TRANSPOETER 1961-1979 SHOP MANUAL." My 1957 bus always had a later model engine and transaxle in it, and, later, a later model frontend, so that particular manual has been good for me. _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |

The Bentley reprint of the Volkswagen Transporter Workshop Manual is the "only" one to get, no matter what the cost. Don't "cheap-out" on this essential manual! All of us veterans can't be wrong...
