Nice find! Looks very original. What is the story? Any pics of the engine and the trunk? |

Thanks, here are a couple pictures of the car now after a god polishing.
As far as history of this great little car:
I bought it from the second owner a few weeks back here off the classifieds. She owned the car since 1971 when she bought from a Pasadena Police sargent. She still had the original pink slip from 71, the original hand written bill of sale, even a letter from the Volkswagen club of America saying here car was just not old enough and new enough to find parts for. It was just not collectible enough back in 1988.....
It had never been hit, still has all the original body panels that do not have rust. The original semaphores, and basically every original part except head lights, speedo and bumpers. I've already found correct replacements. It even still had the original key that fits door, ignition, hood and glove box lock. This thing is a very nice survivor and I will be keeping it as original as possible. Oh it did not have the original engine or trans..... I've currently straightening the original decklid, it had a fen dents. _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Cleaned up very nice! Looks like it was a european car originaly with the semaphores and euro bumpers. Sweet! What color is the gas tank? Body color?
edit: of course it is a european car with the dealer badge still on it
Seems like they are still around: http://www.auto-roehr.de/index.php?id=51 |

If there on the outside, it is where the screws go through the body into the wood tack strip _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Thanks for the reply coolrydes:-) I love your cars, the 60 cleaned up really nice. Which car is the most rear is hard too say, my guess would be the oval 57.. What are your plans with it?
Another question on the holes, yes they are on the outside, but they are in pairs and have a oval pressing around them. Are these markings from some sort of clips or holder?! Ill try too upload some pictures.. |

Thanks, I'll look through my build pics and see if I have pictures of the holes I'm talking about for comparison.
As far as which one is more rare? Not sure, I have the three verts (57 & 60 beetles, 60 ghia) and a Belgium 56 ragtop. I dig rare VWs _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

Haven't posted on this thread in a long time. We've had the car for three years now since the restoration was finished and haven't put much more than 5k mils on it, so finally most of the "bugs" have been worked out and the car has become pretty reliable and fun to drive. The last big hitch was the horn. Somehow we had lost all the horn assembly pieces and finding them was near impossible until recently when a friend came across a 60 sedan and gave me the pieces. I had no clue how to install it but came across an excellent post here on the Samba with pictures and so now the horn is working.

It's called Alabaster, a 1960 convertible color and original to the car. Has a bit of green in it. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

This is my first post in a forum on the samba. Previously I had owned a 1974 super-vert. Recently sold it so I could get this 1960 vert! Solid car, but lots to do. Named her Abbey. Currently though, she's more Shabby than Abbey!
Cheers,
Annie
