Someone said its sad that they paved it all the way up, I don't think so it's time for change , all the records in each class will be broken, better tires will used, and the times will continue to go down. What I think is sad is a Ford or Chevy with an American driver does not have the overall record . |

I agree about the paving . Things do change and manufactories from many countries were present. There was that magical feeling again at Pikes Peak. Greg Tracey in a real fast electric car and so many other drivers looking at not just a record, but if they could beat the mountain. Several drivers were so pumped on the summit this year, because the weather and the mountain didn't beat them this time. Hail, snow, rain it did not stop them. It was more like come on is that all you got ! After the Unlimited cars ran ,the weather just started freaking out. Sun where you would think rain. Hail then sunlight then snow all within a few miles. Mitsubishi , Toyota, Scion and Peugeot all came out in force. You are right this year no real American car company support. Maybe next time. |

A nice tradition of the race .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1vZlLe8fIA
At the end all of the racers drive down the mountain together and high five the fans who flock the road. You can see the diverse types of cars and bikes that race . Check it out and also view Devon's other Hill Climb you tube clips ! |

The Mt. Washington Hill Climb is on for 2014. That course is very suitable for Volkswagen powered race cars. Maybe someone from the Samba site will enter the race !!!

This race was the home of Bill Rutan's "Bathtub". It would be fitting to see a VW run again ! |

I traded for this number recently, it had been sitting in Manitou Springs for many years and had never been assembled from what I could tell. I installed a 68 swing arm and then went to add a front end and the spacing is not correct for a stock front end. I flipped the steering box and did few temp. tack weld so it would roll. Anyone know who built it? Thanks _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

The rear is set up for a safety cage that bolts on. Not the best welds but good measurements and layout. Since its swing arm designed it must be fairly old...A real mystery!!! help.. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Are ya sure the beam spacing is not for link pin? Is that ball joint spaced too far apart? Or too close together?
The square tube bottom rails are different from most all of the California buggy chassis builders. _________________ Richard

I'm sure your right about the link pin spacing, or maybe a rack and pinion set up. I just tacked in a beam to roll it around. The triple shock set up on the rear threw me as well. Thanks for the input. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

That was just so it would roll around the shop...it is clearly not designed for a regular Bug beam. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

looks like a fun project. My guess would be it wasn't designed for the hill climb. Just by looking at the rear shock set up, it would have been for off road fun. Multiply rear shocks wouldn't help on PPHC and I have never seen a VW powered hill climb car with that set up. Love to check it out closer PM me ! |

Nice story about N/D race cars and family this year in Colorado.
Three generations of the Stewart family raced in Pueblo with the Colorado Hill Climb Assocaition . Jay his son Trevor and grandson Micheal each raced in different Newman Dreager race cars.
This is Michael and the only remaining Volkswagen powered N/D still racing. (Other 2 cars run Ford SHO motors)
Thanks go out to the Stewart family for keeping those cars
Some of you might recognize the car. |

That ad has been running for a year or two. Heard it has a new owner now. Would really like to hear how it's restoration is going. The car has a great history. Not only did it run at Bonneville, but it was one of Mike's already built race cars before it was modified for the Salt Flats. So it was either an Ascot Speedway car or possibly even one of the cars that raced PPHC. If it was an Ascot car, there is a chance it may have been driven by either Rick or Roger Mears at one time. Maybe the old owner can be reached with the SAMBA magic and we can find out more. |

In the 15 person group photo the number 15 driver is actually Hank Williams. He is possibly better known as a Fremont buggy racer, Driver of "Super Fly" as well as a TT car. He also appears between "The Twins", in the red jacket. |
