Very, very nice! How fortunate for you to find such a solid survivor. The greenhouse reminds me alot of the NSU Ro80, being tall and with thin roof pillars. That's not surprising, since both models shared the same stylist Claus Luthe:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claus_Luthe

I met Mr. Luthe in the late 1980s when he was in New York City for a business trip.

The K70's engine reminds me alot of the smaller version used in the NSU 1000TT and 1200, though that was rear-mounted crosswise and was aircooled (!). When I worked in Wolfsburg at VW from '80 to '83 there were of course still many K70s in town and on the roads. Too bad they were never officially imported to the USA.

Did you adapt Porsche 911 alloys to the car, or are those paint-detailed Ro80 alloys?

Cheers! Very Happy

The wheels on K70's are Porsche 130 x 5 pattern so no need for any adaptors, although there is a flange on the hubs that needed a 'fettle' and a spacer was used too.

The Cosmic MKII's above are an exact copy of the og wheels back in the day. It now has a set of repop chrome Fuchs that have been detailed.

Hi

No a Golf engine would not bolt up to the box. you would have to change the complete engine, box, drive shafts, suspension, brakes etc... The K70 is nothing like any other VW, as it is actually an NSU!

I wouldn't think twice about using my car a daily. Although finding a low milage example with a good engine is a real task in It's self as they are a rare car. Saying that thay do come up for sale from time to time, so get one and enjoy it!!

Hi Timo

The car has been lowered by using some modified after market MK1 Golf adjustable coilovers. The front shocks lower legs need to be cut off and welded on to the new ones. The rear shocks bolt straight on and will give you a 100mm drop.

Thanks for the reply, I have since bought a K70, my plan is to get it on the road for now and look into the possibility of putting a 3 cyl tdi engine into it eventually. what sort of mpg do these get as standard?

which car did you buy?

Not sure about mpg, I would say an average of mid twenties at a guess.

you can call me what you like although Adam will do if youre stuck for inspiration.

I bought this one from T2d:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/retromotoring/370038155/

Its in need of a bit of welding and a few cosmetic touches but is mostly there (minus the porsche wheels) plans are just to roll it stock for the time being and save for some coilovers and cosmics

Hey Adam!

The penny dropped when you said you owned the white K70 on facebook.

Good call on the wheels, didn't like the late Porsche ones on the car. Will be great when you get the car up and running. Cool

Thanks. Very Happy

The shocks are aftermarket MK1 Golf adjustable coilovers that had the lowers chopped off and the K70 ones welded to them... It now has a 100mm drop.

Appart from a little rear wheel arch grinding and spacers to save the inner arch, that's it!
