Glenn Ring rightly says, "You don't always get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get."
This is my experience and recommendation: In this hobby, like no other-- there's no obvious path to "value", because the hobby is littered with charlatans and outright thieves promising more than could ever be delivered. There's a thousand paths to heartbreak, and only a very few to get you where you want to be. If I had one piece of advice to give my past self, it'd be this-- "Buy once, cry once." _________________ Stan Galat

Here is my advice on buying an engine from across the world.
1) Make sure you can call the company and speak with the person building your engine.
2) Make sure you can pay with a credit card or paypal.
3) Make sure they have a website that can take orders.
4) Make sure they have been in business for at least 10-15 years.
5) Make sure you are ordering directly from the company that is building the engine.
Now, even if you follow all these guidelines, you still may have an unpleasant experience BUT you most likely will get a good quality engine. _________________ Please "LIKE" us on facebook to see what we are working on.

I can vouch for Chico Performance Racing. Bought a 2276, in 2006, mini D port heads, Engle 120 cam 1:1.25 rockers, estimated 170ish hp, 150 at wheels. Crazy fun in a 1500 pound buggy. Still have the engine. Waiting for the right time to find another project. _________________ burning down the house

Try Israel. They have VW's there and it's close by you. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Not all parts are made the same. NOS OE/OEM parts made mainly in West Germany, Early Germany, and Early Brazil are where VW produced the best quality parts and best fitting products.

You can go to his website MOFOCO.com and shop for engines. Just "build" the engine on the website to get a quote. I'd call Roy before ordering to make sure he could ship to Egypt. The shipping would probably be expensive, and you'll have to deal with customs and import taxes as well. But if your prepared for all that, I'm sure he could get a proper engine built for you. |

For the record, the rebuilt transmission in my 1970 is from MoFoCo, and has been fine. So my experience with them has been positive. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. Second owner of each. 1988 Mazda B2200 truck, 1998 Frontier, 2014 Yukon, 2004 Frontier King Cab. All manual transmission except for the Yukon. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335294 http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335297 |
