I just bought a nice Bremen blaupunkt for my 65 beetle but it doesn't seem to clear the wiper motor to install. Is this radio not typically for 60 s beetles or is there trick to installation? |

Mine's a T-series, and fits fine in my '66. That being said, the installation isn't textbook (something I'll have to address).
My issue is how to remove the thing: it looks like I need a special tool to remove the 2 plates behind the knobs from the faceplate (via those two holes in the photo). It looks to me as if they should unscrew so the radio can be pulled out from behind. Maybe I can use some nails, but I'd hate to damage anything back there. Any help would be appreciated.
This doesn't apply specifically to the Bremen, but helped me.

If you need to identify your radio by year of manufacture, this might help.

The radio goes in / out from the trunk. It looks like the face plate needs to be removed from the front, (inside the car). From the picture it looks like you will have to remove the nuts / fasteners from the 2 stems, on-off and tuner. Are the 2 stems threaded. If so you could use a pair of needle nose to fasteners. Go slow, be patient. There may also be an additional bracket that fastens to the opening that holds the radio in place. The radio should just pull out of it. But you should look at it carefully to make sure there are no additional fasteners.

That wiper motor bracket can be adjusted a bit. On one of my beetles, the radio was a bit 'fatter' than it could have been, so I removed that black wiper motor bracket and made the top hole kind of oval-shaped ..just enough to allow the bracket to fasten at a slightly higher point, and allowing a bit more room for the radio. I used a small square of bicycle inner-tube rubber to cushion the spot where the bracket still rubbed on the radio a bit. _________________ "If you can't fix it with pop rivets, crazy glue and duct tape, or hold it together with zip ties, velcro or magnets, it REALLY is broken." |
