I'm going to try this one http://ca.binnacle.com/p8569/MAGMA-NEWPORT-INFRARED-GAS-GRILL-BBQ/product_info.html
It's on sale and they have been excellent to do business with. I hope to provide a review here soon! Cool

So I don't have a new LP tank yet. Crazy plan:

- remove stock burners,
- house and use portable grill in that space
- silicone SS plates over OEM burner holes: dish rack! Easy to remove plates.

But... I see ~ 2-3/4" max height between deck and lid.

Colemans I viewed, too high, the Primus danfromsyr points to is close, but.....

Any recommends for a low profile grill that would fit between stove deck and lid?

Bonus if the LP tank could rest in the sink when connected.

Neil.

I am in the process of trying to find a small BBQ. I want it to be able to fit into some sort of rubbermaid when I travel as the stink of the BBQ inside the van is just too much. I have a Baby Weber but it is was too hard for me to get on the roof and the rubbermaid that I need to fit it is a ridiculous size. I have no fancy back mounting rack nor do I have a trailer and the possibility that I will get either of those in the near future is remote.

Here is the only option I have seen so far.

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/...?locale=en

Any other suggestions?

Solaire Everywhere, smaller then it appears. Gets to 1000 degrees in one minute. Not for slow cooking meats. Pricey. but well made all stainless steel. Gets super hot gotta turn over the meat more then others. I also place a pan and use it as a stove. Also fits in a clamshell spare tire (put in in a bag) Check youtube

Anybody try this one? It looks like it combines the best aspects of the normal Coleman grill and stove.

Would that fit under the rear seat in a Multivan?

I have the Primus Vidar, the same as Danfromsyr has, and yes i am happy with it. Very Happy My GF and i was 2 weeks on hollyday to Sweden and used it every day. we get 5-6 meals out of a butane boks. The BBQ is big enough for 20 hot dogs. I served 60 hot dogs in 30minutes from it. Just unbelivable from that little bbq. I store it behind the drivers seat. I just love it Razz

I've got a Weber Baby-Q that I've had for years.

Love it - but it's bulky enough that I tend to take it out only when it can ride the roof basket...

After years of messing w charcoal and gas grills,
I recently bought a Solaire Infrared Grill.
This is the Best Grill I've ever owned, by far.
(look up Solaire Grill on Amazon - read reviews)

- Super Fast. Ready to cook in less than 5 min.
- Super Hot. as hot as a bed of wood coals. Drippings are instantly
vaporized w/ no flame (may be less carcinogenic as a result).
- Infrared = best BBQ you've ever had. Sears in juices and flavors.
- Made in USA. Very high quality, all stainless, will last forever.
- #1 reason for buying: Self cleaning. No gooey mess inside the grill, no
residual juice/grease to attract critters/bears. After a couple of minutes,
all the mess is reduced to a fine white ash.

wish I bought this years ago!

I have something like this...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-ga...mp;index=2

It's cheap, comes in a case (which fits into a tupperware container).

I't ain't stainless but it works.
Great when all you wanna do is cook a pot of stew and not mess up the van.

I've had a CADAC SAFARI CHEF set-up for a few years and have had very good service from it. Amazingly versatile in what you can cook or grill on it. From bacon and eggs for breakfast to steaks in the evening this compact little grill can do it. It is my primary cooker when camping. I keep also a small single burner hiker type stove to boil water for tea.

check it out at the link below. I am in no way affiliated with the company just a satisfied customer after buying one maybe 6~7 years back for $75 at an RV supplier.

I've been saying it all along. This is the ferrari or mercedes of all grills. I've tried the weber q, the cobb, and many other grills. Nothing compares to how your meat will taste when you grill it 1000 degree heat. When I grill even in my back yard I don't even touch my other weber or charcoal type of grills. I take my Solaire and grill my meats, everyone who has eaten my grilled meats can't believe how the meat comes out so great. The quality is second to none all stainless steel and made in Whittier Ca. I live 20 minutes from them and I visited the factory and I was impressed. It may be little pricey but you pay for what you get. Worth every penny.

Here is my Safari compared to a Lodge Cast Iron skillet with lid.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=295515

I returned the Safari, and currently use a small dutch oven:

http://www.lodgemfg.com/seasoned-cast-iron/dutch-ovens/serving-pot-with-iron-cover-L2SP3

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It does a fantastic job of cooking steak, and the lid lets me cook inside the Westy without splatter. Cleanup is a breeze, just get it hot and add some water, blot up with a paper towel, repeat, and done!

The versatility of being able to use the dutch oven on the westy stove, or any other stove, plus the option to use it to cook on a campfire, make it extremely versatile.

I'm thinking of replacing my little Weber with a Volcano:
http://www.volcanogrills.com/collapsible-stove/grill-catagory-page
I really like how you can use briquettes, wood or propane. Anyone tried one of these?

> Anyone tried one of these?

I have not, maybe you will post your impressions. I would rather have a Webber Q, here are some reasons.

1. The Volcano will rust, its cold rolled steel.
2. The Volcano heat diffuser will get soaked in burned grease if you use the wire grill to cook on.

Similar to the Safari, there are multiple layers in the Volcano that will get greasy and need to be scrubbed in soap water.

I like cooking with a lid, the Volcano lid is soft and flexy, imagine cleaning that after it gets greasy.

The Webber Q has a hinged lid, big plus not needing to set it down somewhere. The Webber grill surface is enameled cast iron, possibly my favorite grill surface.
The Webber grill has a grease pan.
The Webber uses Propane, my current favorite fuel.

I dont like cooking with wood or charcoal because of the delay in starting to cook, the amount of time it takes to burn out, and the need to find safe disposal for hot coals and ashes.

Imagine cooking hot dogs for lunch at a ski area, would you rather cook with wood and no lid, or would you like to cook with a fuel that is instantly ready, produces no ash, and requires no spent fuel disposal?

Good points, 1 and 2.

I have a big Weber Q at home but my little camping Weber is not a Q, just one of those little black boxes with unhinged lid. It's a few years old and the bottom is permanently greasy, so I'm looking for something more compact and versatile. I'm tired of hoisting thins thing up into the luggage rack or laying it on a tarp inside the van.
The Volcano can use propane and if you run out, just chuck some wood in there and save yourself a trip into town for more propane! Wink
At the ski area I'll cook lunch inside the van!

Anyone have one of these little guys? A Fuego Element? I saw it on a couple of portable grill top 10 lists from BBQ web sites. Wal Mart has it on sale for about 33% off right now...

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Element-Portable-Gas-Grill/21128012?findingMethod=rr

I'm very tempted. The Solaire looks awesome and my mouth is watering at the idea of searing, but I cook a lot of chicken, and sausages/hot dogs on the grill and I really need a "low" option.
