I'm contemplating some visibility improvements. Would something like this type of mirror on one or both sides look horribly wrong for this car?

This mirror was on my 1950 split and I love the way it looks. I think it is a Hagus" brand? I am trying to remember. I found an NOS one to replace this one when my car gets done. Tim

You could go with any clamp on one that has a shape that you like and is fairly "vintage".
There was a huge stock width available. Even quite early with hinge pins.
Though Iīd place a drop shaped style typically more into mid to later 50s.

After fighting a bit with the car not wanting to run, I found the float valve was sticking. I swapped it out and the engine fired right up.
Did a bit of clutch adjustment and it was time for a road test.
Hubby got the honors of the first drive and then we took a spin together around the neighborhood.

I have something for you:
Actually, that one is an "imperfect" that needs some more boiling water tweaking. I made that one, and 3 others last night (that fit perfect) and will send you one out tomorrow. After I made those, my tongs broke and I'll have to make another pair to make some more.
Congrats on the first drive, that is so awesome. I know that it is SUCH a long road and that first drive is so rewarding.... _________________ John Henry

That is great John. Thank you!
Thanks to a very generous Samba member we were able to get copies of the original Swedish plates that are listed on the registration papers.
Here is a picture of the car with one of it's previous owners
And now one of it's current owners.

Nancy, congratulations to your split, it came out so nice.
Only peolpe who carefully did a FULL resto to a car know how long the way is until itīs finished.
The result you achieved is just fantastic! |

I bought a version on the samba, but the mount is all wrong. I am going to try and modify it so the clamp rounds over the door to clip inside the rubber seal track... any photos of what yours looks like? BTW, love the car Nancy! |

Thank you Brian. I appreciate the compliment.
What I have is an NOS pair of these Albert mirrors. I may try just one on the drivers side first and see how it looks. If OK then I might add the other to the passenger side.

Side view mirrors are something that you take for granted. I'll be driving BBT Bob's '49 again to Germany in a few weeks... it has no side view mirror! 250 miles each way on the highway, quite a challenge! I think I may try to make a magnetic one.... _________________ John Henry

Every time I drive my car, I keep looking for the side view and panic when I don't see it. Maybe a suction one John, like the mount used for GoPro cameras |

i remember decades ago in germany, a beetle with a roofrack mounted mirror solution for towing a trailer.
That should be easy to manufacture and would not require anything clamped or drilled to the doors. I wish i could find a picture _________________ regards
