My problem is that the side wall rating will probably be to low. I want an E rated side wall. These are probably C rating. They would cause too much sway. |
Damn, how much does the thing weigh? the tire i suggested is likely FAR more than what that thing came with on it. With all 4 aired up the car would have to weigh over 3 tons to stress the tires, thats 6200 lbs.
I cant see this entire vehicle weighing more than 3000 lbs. Now im interested to see how much it does weigh. |
If I remember it right C rated tires are passanger car 1 ply side walls. E rating is truck 3 ply. It is not all that heavy but it is like a sail boat & would sway in the wind pretty bad with a 1 ply side wall tire. I have never weighed it but want to very soon after it is back on the road.
Tires are on the list of things to do fairly soon. I am not going to switch the front back to wide 5 before BBB 2011. After BBB 2011 I will narrow the beam by 2 inches bu cutting off the tubes outside of the stock shock towers, install new bushings, reinstall the same arms & 73-79 Bus disk brakes, & finally put on small 5 to wide 5 adapters so that all wheels are the same. I am having 5 Bus 15" rims & 3 of the late bay small 5 rims painted white at this time.
Everything in time. |
Nice nice. yeah id have to call coker and ask them what the sidewall is/how many plys. I doubt its that thin. I run the 670s on my bus, and ive loaded that sucker to the roof.
I got a flat offroading, and was able to drive 4 miles with no air in the tire and the sidewall barely bowed...lol.
They are damn strong.
But yeah with that beast i agree making sure you have the correct tire is going to be key, both for look and function.
This will now be the sickest kemper on the planet. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

What's that I see between the fuel gauge and the speedo? Oil pressure? |
Water Temp gauge |
Kewl. If you want to convert it to a Split Bus type (concave back) dash bezel I have a couple decent ones that probably won't be getting used on tachometers. Would be a bit pricey though and they're not quite perfect. |
I do very much want to get a matching temp gauge. I also have several donor fuel gauges to get the bezel to match but the face is black & not brown. If I do the bezel I want to have the face painted & numbered to match. I am actively looking for a stock brown 12V temp gauge. I think an oil temp gauge will work if anyone has a brown faced up to 250 degree VDO temp gauge? |
The period oil temp gauges are usually black face, but you can find a black face Bus fuel gauge to match. Like this one
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1012205
Early Ghia electric fuel gauges have the exact same face, and it's almost always black instead of brown. Here's a couple
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=890176
The face from the oil temp gauge will swap into the VDO cockpit or series 1 water temp gauge no fuss no muss. All you'd have to do would be to cross out "OEL" and put "WASSER" in its place. Make sure to mark on the housing where the pointer stops at its maximum so you put it in the correct position when you reinstall it. Modern VDO gauges are a piece of cake to remove and reinstall the pointers, unlike the vintage ones. I have some strips of needle material if you want to re-needle the pointer to look stock.
You can usually get one of THESE for cheaper

fag...lol.
Guarantee the load i took to pomona, my bus outweighed this bus.. EASILY.
i was at 2 tons without any doubt.
My tires did fine and have No issues. And they arent cokers dillweavil, they are firestones. Cokers version and blend of this tire are cheaper.
What do you honestly think that kemperink put on this bus when it was sold? seriously..use your head. There wasnt shit available that would fit in the fenders that was any better than..... a 670-15".
Id bet 1k$ thats what came on it. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

lol! whatd it come with then, i definitely want to know. Thats why i suggested the 820-15. has a higher load rating and is same diameter. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

Well, it's a '67 so you might start by looking at 14" tires instead of 15" tires.
As far as the $1000, get your buddy Dan to help me out with that 9/55 wheel he found and we'll call it even. =) |

lol. I forgot this was a 67, durr. I thought it was a 62..damn i fail.
and... I found that wheel. I got dan the deal on the 5 wheels, and told him to contact you cause you needed that one wheel.
So whatever you 2 work out, i dont have much say. You both have stuff which you got for next to nothing, that each other needs. So im sure you guys can make it work. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

OK, while all of the banter is fun lets get back to the Kemperink. LOL.
I picked up some more little trinkets for the Kemperink this weekend at the Solvang vintage meet.
I found some more items for the Kemperink build at Solvang this past weekend. The dealership binder is very cool. I am going to put the Buses information in it. The owner who did the motorhome conversion to it made-up a binder & all of the owners since have added to it.

Well progress has been slow but she is coming along.
Today I mounted up the front bumper, OG EMPI front bumper steps, roofrack & installed new rubber around the roof cap to sidewall drip rail.

I did a few more things to the Kemperink today. I completely built the driver's side window frame, got about 1/2 way through the passanger side window frame, installed the rear corner engine compartment vent, installed both front door exterior handles, & 2 stickers.
A little work almost everyday & she will get done soon.

Today I finished up the passenger side front door window frame, readjusted that door so that it closed properly, installed the column to floor seal, installed a new rubber floor mat, built the horn button, & test fitted the Koch restored steering wheel.
I have been saving this horn button crest for about 2 years for just this Bus. It is about as perfect as you can get without being NOS. Plus I think it is the correct shade of platinum for late split Bus.

great bus, I'm new in this part of the Samba, but I was wondering if the vent on the back is backwards? I ask this cause I don't know , but would think if it was turned the other way it would let fresh air into the motor compartment. Or is it that way just to vent hot air out? Thanks. _________________ I know you would understand what I'm saying if you could just see my HANDS
