wonder what the back story is. quality seems shoddy in some areas, but man, that seems low compared to some that have sold _________________

In other words, you are wondering what the answer to the $64,000 question is.

Indeed it does, but what time of the day was it sold?, if the fat wallet players weren't quite drunk yet maybe it reflects a more realistic market price?
Or it could just be due to the lack of chrome on the engine _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Barrett-Jackson description says: "Completely rebuilt, period correct to the highest standard with a 1600 single port motor, type 3 transmission."
Doesn't having a Type 3 transmission make it not period correct? The builder probably chose that tranny for the purpose of eliminating the reduction boxes that came on Buses through 1967, resulting in lower engine RPMs. And isn't a Type 3 tranny a Type 1 with different axle shafts and tubes? Also, the correct engine would be a 1500. So much for high standards. I doubt that the buyer was aware of the period incorrect changes. |

Type 3 transmissions had different gear ratios, and long axles like later bugs.

There is an Estate Auction, Tues. Sept. 1, in Santa Ana, CA. I realize that doesn't give anyone much notice but I found out about it just today. The location is the Orange County Public Administrator's Office parking lot, 1300 S. Grand Ave., Santa Ana. Map -- https://goo.gl/maps/XSRHV
There are five aircooled VWs among the 69 cars being auctioned.
The auction company's website: http://kenporterauctions.com/vehicle_listing_temp....searchval=
There are thumbnail photos of the VWs at Lot # 6, 9, 10, 20, and 113. There are three Bugs and two Buses.
The Orange County Register article says (see side bar) that the gates open at 8:00 am and the bidding starts at 10:00 am. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/willits-679978-auction-administrator.html
Important note. At this website: https://kenporterauctions.com/PDF/Catalog.pdf check out the terms the buyer must agree to, especially #2, "A $500 Bidder deposit ($1000 for Dealers) is required at the time of registration and will be refunded immediately should no purchases be secured."
I gather from reading the Register article and other articles, that the cars were exposed to the elements and it has been a long time since any of them were running. |

I'm waiting for that '56 vert to see what it goes for, always fun to catch them going across the block on TV.
Everett, sounds like you need to go check out a few of those and potentially add them to your collection, since you're so far away and all. |

I probably should go over there but the one time I went, I was massively disappointed by 99% of the cars.
The cars look better in photos and on TV.
I'm happy with what I have anyway.
The funny thing about this time of year is a bunch of cars also show up on Phoenix craigslist.
Most of them appear to be cars that "high end" car dealer bought at a past auction and are trying to sell to people here in town with money to burn.
Example:

How did that get converted from a 21 window to a 23 window, pray tell? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Welding.
I'd be concerned about the fact that it now has 1962 VIN #s too.
Ignore that it says 1961 in the ad, it's a '62.
Weird, it's flagged and removed now... _________________ How to Post Photos
