Jeffersonville IN Maaco?

This is probably a long shot, but I figure I'll see what happens anyway. I'm looking to do a cheap paintjob on my '72 Super, something to last 6 or 7 years and look decent. I've done some minimal (and probably fairly shoddy quality) bodywork on it...there's still some dents and it won't look perfect. But anyway, I want to know if anyone has had any experience with the Maaco in Jeffersonville Indiana, since the quality of Maaco shops vary based on location.

I would prefer to have someone else paint the car but I have searched all summer with no takers so it seems like Maaco is my only option, around $700 since it'll need a coat of high-build primer first.

My eXperience with them is that they paint whatever is given to them with little regard for quality of the bodywork. That said, if you give them a decent base to start with, they do a decent job. I used one in Cincinnati and was basically pleased with the result.

why not have a crack at it yourself or see if a local independent paintshop will rent you the spray booth for a day. Thats how I did my van this time, nothing ventured nothing gained etc

My Maaco paint job.

Painted Feb. 1978, $140. Make sure to look at the freshly-painted cars in their lot, maybe ask some who had paint jobs there a few months prior.

Someday I'll get it painted back to Clementine Orange.

Tips for using high volume paint shops (Earl Schieb,Macco)

Painters at these shops are usually skilled journeyman who get a ton of practice,they do excellent work with a little "persuation"

1. Do all your own prep work,and make sure its done right...short cutting prep is one of their "profit areas",if you insure a quality base the end result always comes out better.

2. supply your own paint,name brand, high quality...dont rely on their "house" paint,its one of the areas they save money,plus your painter will enjoy blowing quality stuff.

3. this takes a little "skill",but after you deliver your car and your done in the office discreetly wander back to the shop and bribe your painter...dont be a cheap prick,drop a fifty on him at least. impress him.


Ive seen some really good jobs come outta the high production shops using these tips....as good as some 5k jobs ive seen...

Thanks for the advice! I'll be buying my own paint and primer from somewhere else, hopefully that will lengthen the life of the paintjob. I'm really OCD about keeping the paint on my cars in good shape so hopefully it will last a long time and look good.

Now I've just gotta wait for the guy who is supposed to do the welding to be open so I can get it in for that, and THEN take it to Maaco. I don't like relying on other people to do work for me
