| was wondering what numbers are used for the title the body tag or pan? i have a 55 thats missing the body tag up front |

| The numbers would be the same. It's the same number, unless your '55 had a body or pan swap. If it had a swap, then the number used (and thus the legal/official year of the Beetle) varies from state to state.. in my state, they use the number on the pan (tunnel). |

| If the trunk tag is missing, they'd probably go with the tunnel tag, after they check on the previous owner's registration and title, looking for irregularities and whatever.. how long has the front tag been missing? |

| no idea how long the tag is missing. the body is a 55 and according to the numbers on the pan, i believe the pan is also. there is no indication they have ever been seperated. |
