Yesterday a wonderful gentleman I met years ago let me pull his immaculate 78 Deluxe Westfalia Camper out of the barn and home. Quick back story, about 8 years Mr. Steve walked into the local grocery store I worked at while in highschool and asked me if I owned the 73 Westy in the parking lot. Indeed it was and we struck up great VW friendship. Great man, full of vw knowledge and about 45 years my senior. I moved away for college, odd jobs and now back close to home and working a great job as a mechanical engineer. Just to wrap this up, I stopped bye Mr. Steves place and to my surprise he had been waiting for me to come bye....... and now I am the owner of an amazing westy. A bit dusty, been parked for 12 years but won't take long to get going.

Those are not the og wheels. I put an extra set of mine on to get it on the road. Original wheels actually look great, but poly tire were dry rotted pretty bad. |

If you plan to go through this and clean it up, please consider starting a thread, posting photos as you go. I would really enjoy seeing and learning more about your new Westy. Great story! |

Most fortuitous find. Love the story and great shape. Is that an old Plymouth Satellite or GTX in the background? And the blue car next to it? Agree, start new thread on getting it running. |

Cleaning update....excellent fade on the roof. Also found it is an original Valley VW truck, about 3 miles from our house.

Yeah, I think will start a thread. I believe this Bay deserves to be well documented during refurbishment. I will post a thread once i get started but it might be a couple of weeks before I get the time and funds to get going. Also I will give it a good bath and better photos before starting.
Thanks for the push.

Unless you are buying these buses, you are posting in the wrong place. This is about finding buses and hauling them home. If you want to post good deals on buses, put them here... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=307619
Also, hunting on Craigslist/Samba classifieds doesn't really count. Anyone can do that. _________________ nothing |
