And you too! WTF! That's a nice one there. Sell that other POS I helped you get |
Haha... Thanks Jason! The old bus shipped to Long Beach a week or two ago. Once I found this bus I made preparations to sell my old one that you helped get. It was a sad day the day it rode off on a trailer to CA, but it's in better hands now.

I picked up this mostly-original 1969 9-Passenger Montana Red Clipper-L Sunroof Deluxe in April. It was located about 115 miles away from me. It's an odd feeling for my dream bus to be so close all these years yet I was unaware of it till recently. A friend of our car club posted up that his 80 year old neighbor had a bus for sale. Not realizing what it was I disregarded it at first. A slow day at work led me to relook over all the ads and I noticed something special about the bus and enquired further.
A road trip over into Missouri while the Mrs.'s was at work one weekend led me straight to my dream bus! A deposit was made and the agreement to return with the rest of the money and to pick it up!
I have a lot of work to do on the bus. Someone cut the rear wheel arches out, the engine needs some love and the sunroof cables, plastics are shot. I feel blessed to have it. Every man has his unicorn and this is my unicorn! They are still out there friends! Keep hunting and sharing if you don't want it!! You never know what someone else is looking for!
I am looking for a good (short) rear luggage bar and rear window jail bar set as they were missing. I am also in the market for a BN-4 Eberspacher Gas heater as it was missing that as well.
Baywindows are where it's at!! |
. Hey it is me David. I am glad that you found "Your bus." That thing is a "I'm going to the beach" cool ass bus. Make sure you keep the Freak Brothers headshop sticker on there. _________________ 1971 Tin Top Westy Campmobile 70 |

Hey all,
New to the forum, but wanted to share my new ride - my first aircooled since my old 72 Super Beetle back in the early 90s.
Found for me by the amazing Fran and Ron at Sunshine Auto Garage in Sarasota. Completely original, completely stock, no rust anywhere. Sunroof with factory blue plexi insert. Whaaat?
One "real" owner (an intermediary had it for about a month) - as the story goes, OO is a 92 year old who still drives his Vanagon.
Talked my wife into it by telling her we'd use it for her bakery business. Sometimes... otherwise she's mine.
Drove home last week on the scenic route via the Appalachians from Sarasota to Connecticut. Thrilled to rejoin the aircooled cult! Looking forward to learning from all y'all crazies.

Okay, so I am a novice to all of this....I've wanted a Type II bus for as long as I can remember and finally took possession of "Emily" this week. The gentleman I bought it from took very good care of her and was sad to see her go. Thank God he found someone to buy her that will treasure her (me). As usual, there's work to do as I start my Odyssey, but all in all, Emily is in fine shape:
She recently had a new restorative paint job and looks great!
I look forward to posting more pictures as I get knee deep into this project [/url] _________________ 72' Westy-Emily |

If those are original front wheels, looks like a '71. You gonna get it? _________________ '03 MV |

Who leaves a motor like that? Maybe they were driving into the woods and it fell out so they abandon it.... _________________ 1971 slammed bus "Lenny"

I left a note in the owner's mailbox. Judging from the pictures, could anyone give me a rough estimate of how much I should pay for it? I'm new to all this.
I could see that bus in the woods from the main road. When I pulled down a side street to get out and look I saw that in front of his house he had an old split window.

From the pictures you provided it is hard to tell the price.
first off, how bad is the rust? Rust can kill a bus from ever returning to the road...
How original is it? is it a hack job or a beauty? by the look of the paint job, it looks unoriginal...
also check if it still rolls. if the brakes are frozen then it isn't the end of the world, but it is another job to do... This also makes it a heck of a lot harder to tow home.
is the engine rebuildable? Who leaves an engine in an abandoned bus?!
Please be aware that the bus may look fine, but it may have a lot of problems that will take time and money... leave room in your budget to fix, upgrade, restore and maintain a piece of history.
considering it is an early bay (which is more sought after) i would price the worst case scenario on that bus at about $1200. if it was the ultimate gold mine and restored, running, shifting smoothly, low mileage (never rolled over) it could fetch anywhere between $15,000 to $25,000 depending on how good of a job you put into restoration. |

It looked like mostly surface rust from what I could tell. I didn't get a chance to look under the bus though... Here's the only real bad spot from what I could tell at a quick glance
Not sure about the exterior, but from the windows it looked like a full original interior.
Didn't get to look at brakes or engine either, if I get a call I'll let you guys know. I'm not sure if I'd want to pay anything over $1000 for it. Looks like it'd be a pretty big project, especially considering my lack of experience. |

I paid 300 bucks for a bus in better shape than that two years ago. Go in at that and max maybe 500. Its worth about 300 in scrap metal. _________________ '69 Westfalia Camper~Cassidy
