This is what I was researching to do for my 56.

Also, VWZACH, have you gone through this yet? I found several companies that will widen your stock wheels to taste, for instance:

I know this is an older post but I have been looking up this subject and it seems there isnt a lot of info on this modification. I am going to run 17 x 7.5 on all four corners and I have been fabricating for 20 yrs shouldn't be to bad of a job. It looks like you cut it in the middle, did you install a sleeve? I was told there are spot welds on the end that can be drilled out and remove the end, cut down the tube and reweld with spot welds. True or false?
