I'm looking for any full length pictures of the Rare 1972 Australian Type 3 Racing Stripe that was a VW Dealer installed Option.
There is a partial photo in theSamba archives but was hoping someone would be able to help with a photo of a car that has one applied.
Someone has to have a photo :

To be honest I have only seen one type 3 with the racing stripe in the last decade and that was just driving past me in the opposite direction.
good luck in your endeavors. |

Greg, you might want to talk to John J., as he can probably whip up something like that, that could be transfered to vinyl. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I hope this helps.

I stumbled on this ad last night. It's not a modern pic but it will give you a better view of the option. If someone has a surviving racing stripe type 3, I also would love to see it.
EDIT: I noticed that these two stripes are differed.

John's already done that one, and Keith has it on his Squareback. You can contact him for a full scale cad drawing of it that you can take to a vinyl printer place. Bert also has them too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I had a big box of them I sold off in the 90's that I found in western NSW.......I think the 1973 tacho(not the one shown in the brochure) with trip meter speedo and centre console setup were the rarer beast.... still have a few of those tachos.. |

It's amazing that when you think you've seen most everything that was available for Type 3 cars, you stumble across this stripe kit design.
As far as having it made is not the problem and with the available art work just from the brochure is a very good start.
I guess that what I'm looking for is:
Did the body stripe go to the end of the front fenders about where the body trim ends?...Would the end be rounded or to a point?
Still looking for a photo!...Much Appreciated. |

Yes, This is the "Body Side" Racing Stripe Kit !...Australian Only !
I already have this rear quarter art work but I'm looking to get photo's of the rest to the front end.
I'm NOT looking for the "Lower Body" "Type 3" or the "Formula Vee" that was available in the USA.
I have a Type 3 stripe kit on my Squareback and was possibly thinking about the Aussie kit for my Fastback. Just a unique look that you never see.

Thanks for the reference...Still hoping for a Full photo of the Aussie Racing Stripe Kit...Much Appreciated ! |

I actually just bought a set of these stripes from Bert3 about a year and 1/2 ago. Ended up selling them a few months back though - going in a different direction with the car.
They were very nice from what I could tell though. You should PM him, he might have a few more sets lying around. |

I have been wanting to get one of these stripes for my car for a while. They came in 3 colours white, black and gold. I have seen two different model numbers FB7 and FB8 But the pic was the same for both. I don't know if the numbers were for two slightly different versions of that stripe??? One for early cars 70-71 and one for 72-73 Aussie cars with the Type3 badge on the front guards. The stripe I have a pic of goes to a point on the front guard where the side trim ends. I,m not sure but I thought I seen some when I was a kid that stop about 5inchs shorter in the front and pointed to the type3 badge on late cars??? Or I have also seen a car that has a simular stripe that was straight at the back, it was the same at the front and stopped about 2 inchs past the air intake grills in the back with the type3 straight behind. |
