I really like the ghia in that video. Are there any vintage racecar ghia (or bug) builds here on the samba? _________________ 1971 Karmann Ghia

I found a few topics when I - samba Google searched - but I'm having a hard time getting the links on here. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

That's quite a find...if you're going to be around for a while start a new topic about it. I think everyone would like to hear the story and see more of it. |
I agree! Start a thread and post tons of photos that is a very clean looking Ghia from what I can tell.
Same for josthud - although yours looks finished - still a beautiful car! _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

It was about 50 degrees today so I put in rear windlace and the interior quarter panels. Then took a few pics in the garage. Anyone else getting antsy for spring??

I was out on a gravel road and saw the sun set, so I took the time to take a little artsy picture . You can't see that car that well.....

Running around doing errands this weekend I came across this '71 with a parking spot open right next to it. Maybe it's not as exciting to others, but this was honestly the first other Ghia I've come across "in the wild" (save for air-cooled events) in years. Was fun to get to meet another Ghia driver too!

Here's my 1959 (Sept 1958 build) coupe. A little rough right now, but with a heavy-duty front sway bar, camber compensator, and a 1600DP equipped with an EMPI 38, it's a blast to drive on the mountain roads AND I can keep up with my neighbor's 1964 356C Porsche just fine...

Still looking for:
(1) My Dad's 1955 356 (he raced it amateur-class at Riverside and other courses during 1950s),
(2) My parent's black 1955 hardtop bug (CA license plate FWC 201 or FWG 201), and
(3) My parent's agave green 1957 ragtop bug (CA license plate LFK 734). |

BTW...you can stop calling it a '59...Sept '58 build is a '58...unlike Beetles, Ghias didn't have model years until around 1965. |
Hmm, does this mean I should be calling my '62 a '61 since it was actually built late '61? |

Yes...for the Beetle all the "progressive refinements" were saved to be implemented on the 1st August each year, hence the Beetle Model year commenced on that date so 1st August 1959 was the commencement of the 1960 Model Year.
With the Ghia the "progressive refinements" were applied throughout the year so 1st August carries no importance to the Ghia...it's all related to the vehicles Vin number...that is up until I believe 1965. _________________ John.

I do not think that that is the same ghia. Look at the tail lights..... It would be cool though if it was the same car. _________________ 1971 Karmann Ghia
