I have had good luck with JayCees spring tubes. |
One of the biggest issues I've had with having an engine this big (2989cc), is the amount of growth during the heating/cooling cycle. And a lot of stuff that works fine on smaller engines, just doesn't hold up with this duty cycle. So I very rarely complain about parts issues I encounter. That said, I've been looking for some super whammy large diameter tubes (to fit the bigger push rods) to address this issue.
During a casual conversation with Roger Crawford, I found that he had had these same issues on his race engines, and had developed these tubes with a higher spring rate and triple oil O-rings -- -- From first impressions, these are perfect (I had to hit the gym to get enough strength to collapse the springs for install LOL)... And instead of using oil for assembly, I used some high temp anti-seize goop I had laying around. SO, I'm thinking (fingers crossed) I've finally solved this issue!!!! _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

New to the VW but not to cars. This is going to be fun owning one of these. A lot of work was done but it needs finishing work, fix a few things & repaint. 2165cc w dual weber 44's It's fast. Kind of like that. Wish I could have driven it before the snow came.

OK, I'll bite - why does it need a repaint?

The paint looks good from 25 feet away. It is flawed in many places. It's a little to flashy for my liking so time to repaint. House of Kolor is a cool paint and flashy, but that color on this car doesn't look right. Going with the Mango Green/Sea Gull Grey from 1967. My wife is partial to green. That maybe the only thing "stock" on this car. |

Salted roads are now a distant memory, some of the polish is back on the Ghia, the newly-rebuilt engine is purring, and time to start touring the countryside.
Local group (Commemorative Air Force) restores and shows vintage aircraft, and had a "Wings and Wheels" event today in Culpeper, VA. This is a TBM Avenger:
