Front area all prepped with etch and then the areas that will need welding ground back and sprayed with weld through primer...ready for the front panel
Mick (my panel beater) cut the top section above the windscreen off the front repair panel as well as trimming a couple of other bits back and then prepped that ready for welding in....

Popped up this eve and three of us got the front panel on - took about 5 mins to line it up all in place....
Mick folding the lip over
The panel is a fantastic fit

I need to place an order for some of those new JK front doors. Anyone got any views on them?
|
I had a good look at one at the JK stall last year at Vanfest. The quality looked very good on the display door. I noticed they have just dropped the price slightly too. £300 each now including the seal kit. Maybe they weren't selling too quickly but with the price of so called 'rust free' import doors and panels over here at the moment, i think they will soon be shifting them with ease (as long as the quality holds out).
The bus is coming along nicely _________________ I like caves..

Thanks for that - I've been in touch with JK (both in the UK and over here because we know have JK Australia).
The front doors are pricey but I will be buying them. The cost of panelwork on each door comes close to the cost of these new so it seems the sensible option...we'll probably just have to do a hinge conversion |

Mick had a busy week. Finished putting the front panel on
Also the deformation panel
He had to fabricate small sections at the side of deformation panel

O/S battery tray was pretty screwed so that was cut out and replaced
Few other patches that had rust holes replaced. Now its 'just' both front steps, rear half floor, the side panel and a bit of work on the cab floor

Time to start thinking about what's going to power this bus along...
The cam, crank gear, solid lifters and springs...they're all original new 1970's German kit but not quite stock....
Came from Steve Kent (thanks Steve) with a whole bundle of knowledge and information

the bus looks great.
have you given thought to the front turn signals yet? Find NOS, refurbish old ones, repros etc? _________________ Steve aka Merlin the Wrench

Hi Steve
I have a very solid set but not quite perfect - same with the rear lenses.
Still on the lookout for something better |

In Australia do you run the single bulb style or the bulb and the small 194 sodemarker in the front turn signals? _________________ Steve aka Merlin the Wrench

I have a set of single bulb NOS VW housings if you are interested. I picked them up from Eric in Woodland awhile back. E-mail me if you are interested and I will get them down and take photos so you can compare them to what is used in Australia. _________________ Steve aka Merlin the Wrench

| Since you have it this far apart, last summer I saw a nice bay that had added a crash protection bar system to protect the driver/pass legs in case of a front end collision. Kind of like an interior roll bar below the dash with some rearward bracing. It was well done and looked very stout. I'll see if my daughter still has the phone pics. |

Very very nice work, keep it up.
I have those exact fogs as well, they'll be great on there. _________________ DCI |all up in your heat exchangers|

I'd be interested in seeing the pics if you can find them. Only prob I have is I wouldn't want anything to be visible...would have to be hidden behind kick panels.
Thanks for thinking tho. |

Thanks mate
Seriously thought about double doors especially as the floor repair is for a LHD bus, so it accommodates a sliding door. Decided in the end it was just a little more work. |
