I'm sure this rail build is a done deal by now,,

he has t 3 rear brakes, any of you with this type t 3 brakes ( two piece) and boxed IRS arms,,, for maybe 100 bucks more you can con
vert to rear disc ...

by simply buying mid 80's Mercedes rear disc... the vw hub needs to be turned down just a hair, then it drops in the mer disc / rotor ... 3 lug holes will line up the 4th needs to be redrilled..

Then pick a floating caliper. I use Honda 3 rd gen fronts, which means 86 to 89.. but these can be any brand caliper, just be sure they match the acrh of the rotor..
a guy could use mercedes calipers but there huge..

Not too much since I don't have a warm garage to work in. I am wrapping up the motor, I just need a new or decent used alternator or generator to put in. Once it warms up again, I will be back at it again and hopefully have it finished up soon.

That's really coming along nicely. That's actually a pretty good looking frame if it is home built.

Thanks guys, I want to get cracking soon on it again. I chucked the crusty old guages that were in the little dash panel and I just fitted in some cheap guages. They are like the HF ones that change colors. Got them for $5ea. at a show in Allentown, PA. Im going to paint the panel soon too. They're kinda cool.. atleast I think so Razz .

Put in the seats and floor today. Also got the front shocks on. One pair had to go upside down Rolling Eyes , otherwise they hit against each other.

Just a tip here, but if you run the shocks upside down, the piston rod end seal is now facing up and will not be saturated with oil as it should be. That will lead to an early failure of the seal, and the shock itself. You may want to reconsider that type of mounting.

I like the frame setup you have! Very Happy Looking good! Cool

Yea I know, your def. right. The PO actually had all 4 of the original front shocks upside down. I am going to look for 2 skinny shocks with the correct amount of travel and swap these out. Thanks, it is a shorter than normal frame, but..today I added some rollbar padding. I might get 2 more pieces for the middle bars on the sides.

Very cool looking! If you had a mohawk and a little feral kid running around it you would fit right in with good old Max.

i ended up having to reuse my old springs on my type 3 rear brakes. all of the spring kits i have found for a type 3 are wrong. hell one of the parts houses i called and had them pull the kit and look at it and all it was was hold down springs.

LOVE the exhaust that you chose ! ! Where did you get the flapper for the end of the zoom tube? I have a turn out on mine right now and use a temporary rain plug but a flapper plate like yours would be perfect since it could stay there all of the time.

Thanks !

As thick as a big roadsign..since that is what it was. Embarassed The PO must have jacked one somewhere since the writing is all sanded away on the bottom.

TC, the exhaust flapper is like the ones uses on Caterpillars. I hear they can be loud and clanky though.
