Got the chassis and body parts back to the shop and have started to fit parts.
Seems like it'll be a fun project and am looking forward to the learning curve by building outside the box.
My goal for this car is to beat Dick Beith (sp) 1965 land speed record of 129mph in his supercharged 36hp lakester.
Maybe one of speedwells new superchargers or a turbo, we'll see what happens as time passes. I have enlisted help from OLLIES, JD Machine and Geoff Hart performance on some of the engine work, JS Trans for the trans work and the help from a bunch of locals with our new "TEAM ROWCO". This car will be a group effort with numerous different drivers and/or engines!

Ronnie
Did you get a SCCA log book with the car? Do you know who made it?
I have always loved Formula V's and I'm just curious who made it, If I fit in one I would have got one for a Auto cross car.

It's a LYNX chassis and body, ran in 1976 up till 2007. I have all the log books (5 of them) from day one. Going to tear it down to the bare chassis and rebuild it with bonneville as the goal so a few but not many changes will be done and nothing that couldn't be changed back to SCCA rules.
I'm stoked and can't wait till it's done, but won't get hot and heavy on it till the bonneville bus's big engine is back together and the trans gearing is changed. The it's full bore on the VEE.
I did dig out a really nice 356 steering box and the steering components that were needed today so it will be a steering roller and looked at pedal assemblies I have to see to see which way I want to go on these.
I also have 3 core 36hp engines to take apart to see if I want to use one of these or the monster 36 hp case OLLIES did for me. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

Tom Newport who was with the Cedar Rapids crew at the salt has acquired a "small" VW size belly tank(think Dick Beith, circa 1963) and is "thinking"! I am trying to encourage him to make some fiberglass replicas for future use by other racers.
Could be fun and Ronnie is going to need someone to keep him honest in that slick little FV he is assembling.

Hey Burly, did Dick ever mention what ever became of his old 36hp belly Tank lakester? The Wheel Center ar in the old photo from the 1960's?
About 15-20 years ago, when he had the tire store in San Leandro, he had a pumpkin seed LSR car hanging on the wall, next to on eof his old Indy Cars. In fact, back then I gave him an old 500cc Kawasaki two-stroke-triple from my old H-1b that he was thinking of fitting to the pumpkin seed car. I haven't seen that car, or the Indy Car in his new shop, and never got around to asking him about either car, or the small 36hp Belly Tank... |

Tom, the belly tank lakester along with both the 58 and 56 bug he set his records with have long since dissapeared. The Indy car was sold around ten years ago and the small outboard Merc powered streamliner that at one time was driven by Craig Breedlove(yes, that CB), is now in a museum in Nor Cal.

That was not revealed but I believe it belongs to a Nor Cal rodder/racer.

There are/were 2 companies making fiberglass belly tanks. Selling for around
$1,250.00 plus another $250.0 for the headrest scoop part. They make 2 sizes
1: ScottRod LLC in Ohio 419 499-2705
2: Elmo Rodge Racing in Utah 435 529-2026
Was kicking the idea around myself. |

Thinking about it Britt, almost had a 59 singlecab this weekend but he
traded for a panel. Have your doghouse shroud with flaps, could have
sold it 10 times in Tucson last weekend, finally hide it. |

Hmm , the real deal ! Was save from someone that was going to make a side car out of it. He did take like 2 feet out of the middle but wouldn't be too hard to put back. |

Did everyone see the short belly tank in Hot Rod last month?
How did he get in it? |

I was amazzed at the interest starting to build for the 36hp LSC. I had a ton of people come up to me at OCTO that said they are either coming to Bonneville next year and/or building something to run. Going to be 1 hell of a large field of cars if they all come through.
When they say my bus there they asked if that was the bonneville bus, seems a lot of lurkers are watching/reading the Land Speed Challenge thread.
Also RK came and talked at me a little and said the 36hp LSC story in Hot VW's is a couple issues away.
2012 is going to be a great year for the Challenge _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"
