I agree with "the grid", being the issue. Ten minutes is plenty of time to defrost a window. And if you're getting power to the window--and you grounded the other side in your test, then it has to be the grid(s).

Many years of cleaning will rub the lines too thin.

Run your finger along (and up and down) each grid line to see if there are any missing spots (by feel). Also, look at the grids--but this doesn't always tell the full story.

I used a gridpatch back in the '70's and it works for small areas--about an inch per area. But maybe they've improved on the product since then.

Thanks guys-
I actually have a lead on another whole back glass window with defrost grid for $40, maybe be a better fix than trying to patch this one? (Course I have no way of testing it until I actually have it hooked up but the guy says it works fine)

You can test it out with a multimeter/continuity tester before you install it. That will tell you the grid pathways are good. And I agree, it's likely an easier route to go.
