It was in a very bad shape, so my ask is:

doest it worth to restore it, the last one (43) is correct for the split?

and if yes, anyone knows where i can get that part which is broken? that one can be seen in the first picture from my fuel tap.

Thanks and best regard

any help would be great!

Mine has a 27 on it. I'm thinking the number doesn't mean anything.

Mine that's on the zwitter has a 36 and VW on one side, the other looks like a stamp which looks like PAJ? Is it likely original?

Yes Brian, I have seen many, many of those PAJ taps on early Beetles.

so when we quote "6mm" or "8mm" is it the size of the pipes OD or the size of hose to be used?

AFAIK it refers to the OD of the copper covered steel tube. 7.5mm ID flexible tubing fits over it very nicely.

so after a bit of brainstorming with some of the local vw guys today, and ideas from John Henry I tried to do some fine dremel work on a cheap 11mm deep socket to make a tool to get the middle out. The local club guys talked about the similarity to an escution tool and how it worked. Not as neat as Bill and his bad wrenching, the goal was to shave off enough of the sides and leave two sides to go in the slats of the tap. SUCCESS! Thanks guys for the ideas.

This came up in another thread but I felt it was more appropriate to have it here in the "fuel tap" thread.

The tap on the left was on my zwitter. Anyone know the year of the tap on the right?

With the arm it looks to be Barndoor Bus.

I can't tell if it's 6mm or 8mm.
6mm being 53-55 Barndoor
8mm is earlier.

The ID are the same on both outlets (around 3.6mm ) OD on the zwitter is 6mm, tap on the right is 8mm.

I do not know if the "6mm" and "8mm" taps have the same inside diameter.

I wouldn't think so as wouldn't the 8mm system need more fuel delivery from the tap?
Does anyone know or have taps to measure?

As far as I know, fuel taps are either 8mm or 6mm. The one in the picture is 8mm.

Zwitters are when the 6mm tap began

You'll need to fix the broken part as the reserve lever attaches there. As you probably know there is a "ball" shaped end with a hole through it for the cotter pin. The broken part interchanges with other taps so it's easy to replace if you can get the tap apart.

There is discussion about the numbers on the fuel taps in another post. I recall the conclusion was that the number was meaningless from a part number standpoint.
