Thanks for the link. I have a bunch of exhaust tubing and fittings right now, but if I find that I need more I will order it. _________________ my build log

I think he was referring to the angle portion of the mount. I get all excited when your build has new info. Not many hardcore projects going at the moment. And by far nothing as baddass as this. |

That angle is 1/4" thick X 10 mounts. If those break, I have much bigger issues _________________ my build log

the pictures made it look like 1/8", but I still fear a little bending, even gusseting a couple-it will reduce the possibility that they will bend, and pull the bolt, but if you feel safe, then I ain't got nothing against that _________________ My 1975 Beetle Build Updated 8-21-12

Thanks guys.
A friend of mine who builds off-road race trucks and buggies comes over and looks at it from time to time. So far we are comfortable with the mounts. In reality, just need to get it running and thoroughly inspect everything on a regular basis to determine where the weak links are. _________________ my build log

Ok, got some more work done. Finished the side door latch and trimmed the cables, so on to the next project. I got a hold of a 22 Gal race fuel cell from Kal-Offroad. The CJ7 tank was only around 18 gallons. The biggest issue with the original tank is how SMALL the fuel fill line is.
You can see it on the right. Filling up that tank has always been a pain in the butt.
Here is the fuel cell.
As you can see, it has a massive fuel fill, which coincidentally matches the large fuel fill of the bus
Had to fabricate a new skid plate to support the tank out of some steel plate. The bottom of the tank is lower than the original, but since the bus body is longer the the CJ7 body, my approach angles change. Looks like I wont have any problems with hitting anything and it does lower my CG a bit.

Thanks for all the support. Spent some time yesterday removing the front brake calipers. Looks like it is time to buy more stuff
Just ordered new calipers, rotors, and pads for the front. Once those come in, I will install with the new stainless brake lines and get some more pics up.
Kurt is bending up all NEW steel brake lines front to rear. If all else fails, at least I know that it will STOP!! _________________ my build log

a bit more done
Got it to KAL Offroad and pulled the front wheels off to work on the brakes
All said and done: New rotors, pads, calipers, locking hubs, stainless DOT brake lines, new steel lines from the master cylinder through-out the whole bus. (my wallet is NOT happy with me )
But I am liking what I see so far. _________________ my build log
