Just finished a transaction for some Kadrons.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=288493
awesome over the phone service, shipped flat rate, and a confirmation email to let me know it shipped the EXACT same day. Mr Scudder did a lot of walking back and forth while I was on the phone to ensure that I got the part I actually needed/wanted. This is the business model we need in the air cooled community to keep the businesses open and to have enthusiasts continue to shop at establishments that offer such personal service. Thank you Mr Clayton.

I contacted Scudder's about purchasing a used door he was advertising for $50. A tremendous deal! I called to follow up and Clayton was very nice on the phone and immediately texted me additional photos of the door as I had requested. He then asked me to follow up in an e-mail to his ad. Unfortunately, when he responded to my e-mail it was with the price for the door suddenly doubled to $100. In subsequent e-mails, he acknowledged that he had made a mistake in the ad, but that the price was firm at $100.
While $50 is a great deal for a good condition door, it's not like it was posted at $1 or $10 or $1000 which would raise some obvious flags that the price was way off. I understand and sympathize that mistakes happen and I know he's not making money hand over fist, but in the end, I expect sellers to honor their prices as advertised (for at least two weeks - last ad update - and possibly for over 5 month) and I'm not convinced that the extra $50 justifies receiving an unfavorable review here and losing the sale.
Here's the screen shot of the ad as I responded to it:
And after I spoke up about the doubling of the price:
The original ad seemed pretty clear: $50 for T2 doors, sliders, or hatches. The rewrite is actually a bit confusing.
All in all, Clayton at Scudder's seems like a decent guy, but for $100 + shipping plus the carelessness with his ad, I can't justify sending my money there. For the same outlay in cash, I can find a door locally without the hassle or concern about damage during shipping. _________________ Andrew

I purchased a 1 year only 1966 bug flasher knob and switch from Clayton scudder. It was definitely worth every penny that I spent. It was like a brand new one even though it was used and I bought it for way less than anyone selling that same item. He is an awesome seller, honest and easy to deal with also has good communication. Thanks Clayton for being an honest seller. A+ seller!! |

I just purchased a flywheel and some assist straps from Mr. Scudder and I have to say, the communication was great and the items were just as described. He shipped Flatrate and for a 20lb Flywheel, that saved me a ton of money.
Thanks a bunch. |

i sent him a email asking if these 2 doors in this add
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1510277
were still for sale and if so would he take $150 each thats $300 for both
i got an email back stating yes and yes
i emailed to ask how he would like payment cash / check / paypal
he said check would be fine and the doors can ship right after the check clears
i said ok on the check and that i would have a friend that was coming by his area in a cpl weeks and could my friend pick up the doors for me after the check clears and he said yes .
ok so far going pretty good.
the check cleared and my friend picked up the doors for me and dropped them off at my house in montana. the doors where unloaded and right away i could see missing parts based on the pix i had from the add. i made a call to ask about my missing parts and was told he sent me an updated pic showing what had been taken off. i said i had no such email and i know because i always keep all my emails for things just like this. he said i did and if i wanted to return the doors he would take them back but with a restocking fee. i said i will forward all emails and he had sent me 1 with updated pix i would pay that .
i did not have said email nor could he find 1 .
missing parts based on pix from add are
both outside door handles with key
pass side mirror
inside door release trim
pass side thin stainless trim on the side of the door
so you can see all these parts start to add fast
i contacted samba about this and they contacted seller asap [ very vast service ]
and told me he was contacted and i should hear from in the next 24 hrs
i did get a call back saying he would send me the 2 door handles with key but iwas S.O.L on the other parts as they were long gone.
i said fine if thats all he was going to do
i am not very happy over what started out as a good deal for both us turned into a very bad deal for both of us based on him selling my parts off of what was at the time now my doors.
i hope this will help other if they choose to deal with this company |
