for comparison i'm gonna start with the measurements on a commonly used 15 tire for lowered and give a few close sizes in 16.....
175/55/15 22.57" Overall Diameter 3.78" Sidewall height
195/40/16 22.24" Overall Diameter 3.07" Sidewall height
194/45/16 22.90" Overall Diameter 3.45" Sidewall height
175/50/16 22.88" Overall Diameter 3.44" Sidewall height
i'm sure theres probably a few more useable size in euro market tires that are not as common here in the states. a good rule of thumb i've found is staying close to or under 23" overall diameter tends to be a good measure...ken.... _________________ ITMC

| You're going to want to narrow that beam. |

I think you'd be rubbing fenders like crazy without a narrowed beam. Here ya go. This was my 64 Beetle a few yrs ago.
16x6 front, 205/40 tires, 5" narrowed beam, dropped spindles, porsche adapters.
16x7 rear, 205/55 tires, short axle tranny, 1" tranny raise, porsche drums.

That is a great thread for 16" fuchs. As you know the only way to fit 16x6 fuchs on the front is to narrow the beam, my 2 inch narrowed beam works well after the fenders were clearanced a bit wtih some 195/55's. A 3" beam would be perfect on my setup, but I am not as low as the above pictures. |
thanks mate, had a look at that earlier...........the reason i want to do it without the beam work is simply cause i dont like that look. the 165s look like they might just work |

| Yeah I will be curious to hear how the 165's fit. I would think they should fit nearly the same width wise on a stock width beam with drums, as my 195's fit with disc and a 2" narrowed beam. They will just be shorter, and look narrower from the front. Tires from outside to outside should be nearly the same width. Post some pics when you get it done |
