Any of you running a 4" Beam have to tub your inner wall or anything? What kind of fabrication did you have to do?? I'm going air and 17"s and was wondering before I got the body painted if there were anything I needed to know about tubbing the front or what have you.

Awesome looking cars guys!

If you are speaking of a type3 then you dont have to do anything to your car to run 17" wheels that are 7" wide like the porsche replicas.. you just have to change your bolt pattern if you are 4 lug..

Currently those wheels on the notchback could easily just be bolted right up without a narrowed beam or shorter rear axles..

as for other cars they are all different.. bugs are pretty easy and there is lots of info on how to put bags on a bug,,, type 3 bagged requires a ton of work.. either mod your stock front beam or replace it with a bagged type 1 beam.. the rear im guessing you need to pull the torsion bars..

Thanks for the reply! However I'm no curious on how to put bags on a bug, I'm just wondering if there are any body modifications to make when running 17" wheels REALLY low, such as a bag setup. I've seen some people have to tub the front end, but is it necessary?

There is no reason to tub the front end. My car (the black notch above) only has an 1 1/2" of ground clearance in the front and only rubs slightly at full lock. I could lower it more but then it would be completely undriveable! The only modification I made to the front is reworking the bottom beam attachment bolts so they don't hang down so low and cause ground clearance issues. I also had to slightly modify my spare tire pan to get a little more clearance.
If you are thinking of going with an air bag system most people go with the type 1 beam setup. Still no body mods are needed unless you decide to go crazy narrow or run a very wide front wheel. Also, something that is never mentioned about the type 1 beam conversion... it shortens your wheel base. I learned that the hard way. I installed a type 1 beam in my car and it looked completely wrong from a straight side shot. That's when I realized the wheel was sitting too far back in the front wheel well.
