|
|
My '87, 80k mile Syncro needs shocks. I purchased a 4-set of Old Man EMU shocks from one of our friendly Vanagon vendors. The rears came in an EMU box with all their labeling. The fronts however came in a generic white cardboard box which was kinda ripped up...you know the look. I always inspect my parts carefully before taking anything apart. I noticed that one shock had what appeared to be an oval decal under the EMU decal. I removed the first decal to see a Monroe Adventure 4x4 label. I checked the other shock. No decal under the original but it said "Made in Belgium" and the piston diameter measured in at 15.80mm. The "Monroe" labeled shock had no country origin BUT the piston rod is 15.90mm! They sort of look the same, but they are not the same if you look closely.
I think I want a matched set of shocks on the same axle... Anyone experience the selling of EMU's which are really Monroes? As a note the two front shocks look slightly different, the welds, the chamfering of the bushings and other details of manufacturing. The rears are identical to each other and manufactured to a much higher standard, paint, bushings etc.
I'm sure, I hope the vendor will make good on this mis-match. _________________ '65 T1 Sedan

I believe that Monroe makes the bodies but the guts are OME's. Monroe also owns OME I believe so the use of their body makes sense.
Any respectable vendor would take care of your concerns, just contact them. _________________ SyncroFest Schadenfreude!

More importantly, you need to post some pics of your Syncro. That is a really low mile example that I'd love to see a little pictorial on. Please?? Heh.

No way! Even your rear side marker looks red, rather than everyone's faded pink!! More!

Oooh, she is a beauty. I don't usually like the gold color but that van changes my mind. _________________ SyncroFest Schadenfreude!
