Hi, I'm currently building up a daily Baja with 3x3's 930's 3" bj spindles blah blah lol atm I'm thinking ill stick with the vw engine aswell.
Anyway I'd like a ball park figure as to what everyones bug weighs.. maybe post a quick description aswell?
Anyway thatnks guys it would be good to be able to compare weights, as we all know this is a very crucial factor !

Mine is just a hair over 2000 lbs with me, a tank of gas, and a couple of bags with recovery equipment (20 ft of 3/8 chain, come along, tool bag, etc.). My car is a basic baja, no cage, spare tire, or anything

Okay, so do the 1pc front save much weight?
My car will be basic ish haha I'm planning half cage with shocks tied in, front beam supports, 1pc front, 1600dp and type 1 box with 3x3's so I'm hoping it will be reasonablly light.
Does anyone have any weight saving tips?
I'm building mine from scratch so I can chop and change virtually anything at this point.

The one piece front end will weigh 40 or 50 pounds. They come in several weights, light doesn't last very long.
The stock hood weighs about the same, plus the fenders and support structure. Maybe 150 pounds all together.
The gas tank is usually moved with the conversion. That's another 30 pounds plus 300 pounds of fuel, but it will still be on the car somewhere.
Then add the bumpers, rollcage and suspension support structures. Maybe 1 pound per foot of tubing. This easily outweighs the fenders and bumpers you remove.
Stock Bugs weigh about 2000 pounds [early ones are maybe 10% lighter].
Well built Baja Bugs weigh about 2500 ponds.
It is easy to load either up with 500 to 700 pounds of people and good stuff...

I'm building a 4wd fiberglass buggy. I am shooting for 1800lbs trail weight. May be closer to 2000lbs when done.

Brian are you using a Subaru gears conversion? It would be interestingto see how much extra weight they add.

Buggyman

I'm using a factory syncro drivetrain out of a vanagon. This way I have lockers, up to 6.17 r&p, and granny low and granny reverse. VW literature says the syncro drivetrain adds 300lbs to the vanagon. This includes all skid plate protection. Not sure how accurate that is. If true, I'm adding about 200 to 250lbs to the buggy to go 4wd. The subaru drivetrain is alot lghter that a syncro drivetrain but I need the wheeling benefits of the syncro.
