|
|
I own a '68 bug... it was my first car when I turned 16 and I've had it for the past 12 years. About 5 years ago I got the ambitious idea that I would do a full restoration on it (myself). Everything was going great for the first month... taking the whole thing apart was a cinch! Well that's about as far as I got. The summer was over and I was out of steam.
Fast forward to today... I am moving across the country to Portland Oregon and I hate the idea of leaving behind such an important piece of my childhood. Sure it would be easier to just get rid of it and buy a new one out west since it's going to cost close to $1500 to ship it out. But these things are never rational are they?
It is currently in many, many pieces with the interior completely ripped out. Basically all that remains "in-tact" is the engine, the chassis and the two rear tires. The front axel has been taken off. The only way to move it is to pick up the front and PULLLLL. This has been a problem for the auto-shippers I've contacted. So instead of getting started on the resto in oregon, I've decided to get it in driving order here first.
I'm looking for a reputable resto/repair shop near Princeton, NJ. I wold at least like to get the chassis repainted and get the engine running... as well as getting the steering wheel and front axel in place... so I can drive it onto the carrier and then finish up the aesthetics once I get to Portland.
I am looking for any tips and recommendations for shops nearby (Within 50 miles). Or if you are looking for a project car and want to make some money.... I'm open... I just want to get this thing running again!
Thanks! |

Not likely that you'll find a VW specific restoration shop here in NJ as it would serve a relatively small market. A better bet is to buy a copy of Hemmimgs Motor News and look at the listings for NJ based restoration businesses. You could cross reference these with an online search and likely find something near to what you want. |
