you can find H4 conversion kits out there that will replace your sealed beam headlights with a reflector housing that use H4 bulbs (your stock harness will still work) much like modern cars.
im not sure for your location, but do a search for 6024 conversion kits, and you should find something that will replace your 7" sealed beams. there are tons on ebay, and even Hella (the OEM for our cars) makes a kit that looks pretty good. stay away from the cheap projectors, they are worthless from what i hear.
this is the route i will eventually go when i get the car back on the road. no point in spending the money now. _________________ -Sean

You mean like this?
Those are early bug headlights. One of the few type 3 body modifications I like the look of.
Thread about it herehttp://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=89839&highlight=headlights _________________

I'm searching for a set of German e-code Hellas for my Fastback; they are one of my winter parts acquisition goals. I had a set on an old Golf a few years back and I recently upgraded the headlights in my Jetta TDI to the euro spec and the beam pattern is a huge improvement over the floodlights you get in American cars.

I had some of those in the square variety. Once I took them apart, I realized they are NOT real projector lenses (go figure). So, I retro-fitted some Infiniti J30 projectors and HIDs into them for a proper cutoff.
If anyone is interested, I have a pictorial on how I did it. _________________ ~Craig

Here ya go.

That was the first one I ever did, I've since perfected the technique. Hopefully it gives everyone some ideas. The hot ticket is to use Bi-Xenons so you can have HIDs and keep your low-beams. _________________ ~Craig

that is why i suggested against it.
a question for your swap, it was relatively plug and play with the new projectors? im certainly not afraid of fab work (obviously), but the easier the better.
i will be using Bi xenon HID to keep the power demand low for the car (along with my LED bulbs) so hopefully i can actually install a stereo without too many modifications. _________________ -Sean
