I have a vehicle that I drive to work. My 66 is my everywhere else driven vehicle. Cold or hot. Not going to lie though, in the summer the bike gets ridden more.

low to mid 20's in the cold weather, had a manifold with better pre heat and got 24-28, but the exhaust wasn't intended for pre heat and it didn't work as well as it should. I believe with a stock muffler, good preheated crossport manifold it will get over 30 with the right jets. It's jetted and timed for acceleration. Jets are reemed, which effects mpg, its rich to compensate for icing and keep the 32 degrees of total advance from pinging when its running cold and lean. runs really cold, head temps don't even register on the gauge since adding the FI shroud with the ring on the inlet. Works great in the summer heat going uphill.

current manifold

better pre heated manifold, changed it because it made too much power in the higher rpms, fun to drive but... we all know what revving the piss out of a stock motor does, even when properly balanced to turn a little quicker I think I hit 6500 a few times.

66 beetle
67 tranny that's on it's last gears
71 dual port 1600 that leaks oil like a Saudis dream
Mpg-not quite sure on the new engine. Odo is stuck at x94k and itsnot on the high priority list. Mostly back and forth to work.
Tire size-stock in front, terrible oversized 205 65 r 15s in back. Change out from stock in back, and skinny 135 45 r15s in front with stock in back for summer months.
Satisfaction-of course!
Wish list, is long, but includes:
Sorting out electrical gremlins from a pos botched 12 volt conversion.
fixing the oil leak-part of wife's marching orders.
Fix the thermostat
Fix the front clip
Replace back big tires with correct winter studded snow tires.
Fix replace skinny front tires before summers return.
But warmers
Stereo, with speakers and antenna
Seat covers 66 style
Door panels
Professiional paint job after rust has been eliminated.

58 euro spec still running semaphores only Laughing thankfully I live in a small city of 25-30k people so with care I have gotten away with it so far.

driven day or night, dry or rain, tar or dirt roads...

fresh stock '60 36hp, 12V generator
very tired and loud 54? splitcase 'box
nanking 165/80/15's, rebuilt stock suspension/brakes.
headliner and trims, but no carpet or sound proofing, for long trips earmuffs are useful.
no idea on the mpg, I just drive it. I don't know how many miles I have put on it, but it's not a lot so far, I intend on putting a lot more on it.

satisfaction level... well I grin like a little kid every time I drive it.

wish list... that's quite long, I'm slowly turning it into a period rally car for navigational rally's. I've got a lot of the bits, but they all need stuff done to them before I can fit them...

the important stuff:
seat belts
gearbox rebuild
more go from the 36hp
better headlights

heaters working for next winter would be nice too.

This is the only car I own. The wife drives an SUV, so we do have that when we go on long trips or if it snows (don't want to drive this in the snow if I don't really really have to.)

My 1963 daily driver. Around(?) 100k miles and < 5000 miles on a 1600 CC Berg-built DP, mild cam, dual Kadrons, 009, Pertronix, etc. Soon will be CDI with a better distributor. Way more perfectionist tuning needed. Stock trans, for now.

Front tires are 145/80/15's; rears are 205/60/15's on wide-five old-school chromies. KYB shocks, sway bar, and camber comp, etc.

25 - 30 MPG when I drive like a sane person. It does brighten my day when a lady says "love your Bug" at the gas station or from the back of her BF's motorcycle in traffic.

Upcoming: refurbish link-pin front-end, two and one/half" dropped spindles w/disks, dual M/C and possibly Type Three rear drums. This Bug easily keeps up with 75MPH freeway traffic and continues to amaze me, so the brake upgrades are a must-do.

Finishing last details of three-point seat belt install.

Thanks, I think you're right, but I have to do some research. The previous owner said Kadrons, but I don't think he really knew.

10 degrees Farenheit when I left the house today. Just put the flaps and thermostat back in (taken out from PO).

I don't like driving if there's salt on the roads, but I really wanted to drive today since I just put the engine back in last night.

Also replaced the clutch disc with a spring disc. Nice and smooth now Very Happy

Obviously, this is a pic from warmer months.

I was daily driving my OG 60 rag, 6V, 36hp etc. But I have two young kids and the rear seat only has lap belts. Cops say they need shoulder belts and booster seats...

Anyone have any tips on installing shoulder harnes seatbelts in the rear of a 60 beetle? My kids will be in booster seats for years to come and I want to drive the beetle again.

Are there booster seats with shoulder straps on them? That way you could use the seat strap to hold booster down. Mine ride with me every day but they are still in car seats for now.

Not that I can find. Trust me I have looked. My son is 6 and outgrew his shoulder belt car seat quite a while ago. He has to ride shotgun in my bus (not too safe) with only lap belts. My daughter is in between booster and car seat so we are good there for another couple of months.

What about 4 points? Mount the shoulder portion to the package tray?
