I personally love the slammed purple '60s Beetle. It's giving me some ideas for my '62.

We left Yarraglen Racecourse where the event was held around 4pm and headed north toward NSW so we could make a dent in the trip home. We were joined by Ash (http://www.volksculture.com/) in his Bay camper and Nathan and Isaac in Nathan's Type 3 'Ghia "Razor". Rather than taking the long way back to the Hume Hwy and north that way we took the highway heading up into the Flowerdale area to Yea. For those of you who heard about the Black Saturday bushfires in February 2009, Flowerdale and King Lake near it were absolutely wiped out by this disaster. It was sobering to think that the treelined roads were the same area that 2.5 yrs back had been annihilated.

Ash had been having big problems with his Camper and it was discovered a valve seat was loose. By the time he reached Holbrook the adjustment to counter these problems was gone and he could barely climb hills. It was readjusted by Steve Muller who was staying elsewhere in town but Ash left at 5am to ensure his ailing Camper would have plenty of time to get home. Isaac and Nathan also were away with the Razor early on as work called in Sydney. So we were back to the 3 Bus procession we'd started with in Goulburn on Friday morning. Camp at Holbrook Carvan Park....

Checking out the submarines at Holbrook the next morning before setting out for home. This requires no explanation or a VERY long one. Read http://holbrook.nsw.au/AboutHolbrook.aspx to find out why there is a full size submarine sticking out of the ground in a country town over 200km from the ocean!

ARGGGHHH!!! A broken throttle linkage just before Yass. Ryan had already discovered the bearing was going in his alternator, so much that the pulley was horribly loose and grinding away the bracing on the alternator. We were dead scared it was going to let go, pinwheel around the engine bay smashing every and simultaneously destroy the engine fan and motor. Thankfully that held. The linkage turned out to be a little easier. Solution? A bit of a Jim Beam can and some electrical tape. Very Happy

We say goodbye to Linz and Sean at Yass Service centre....."When shall these 3 meet again?"

More tape before limping into Goulburn for a better solution to limp Ryan and his wife back to Sydney....

It was an excellent trip and although I drank very little Sunday was a VERY long day and I've found myself needing a weekend to get over my long weekend. Sunday was a very long day....up at 6:30 to scrub as many of the bugs off the nose panel as possible and drive 1.5hrs to Yarraglen. Then walking around all day, chatting, taking photographs and then onto the road at 4pm to drive for 4 hours with only 2 little breaks. It was really hard staying awake on Monday and Ryan's wife, Sam, had to drive my bus a short stretch so I could have a break. But the Ratmuller 1776cc motor built by Steve Muller of Kombi Rescue through the single side plate L-Bug IRS box was brilliant, did over 30mpg and while we averaged 65mph it could've hammered along at more like 75mph. Gotta love a VW road trip. Cool
