thanks man your name says it all, restoring a vw is a sickness haha.. this whole build started with just a "get on the road and driving" it soon turned into a multi thousand dollar time and money pit, all worth it though its been a great experience. nice work with your car, keep at it |
im planning on it lol just one thing at a time and yes it is a sickness lol did you ever get the car ready for prom or has it not been prom yet? |
its a good question, 30 days until my prom! |
what all is there left to do to have it running before prom? your forum really inspired me to get cracking on my bug thanks but intrested to know if you get it good to go before prom _________________ *Slammed Sickness*

Awe Man I couldn't stop reading...I didn't want to jump to the end...Now I'm here and the cliffhanger is still waiting to be released?
I'm in Afghanistan and I'm pinned to my seat...
I feel bad I haven't given my ride this much care and attention. First thing when I get home is I'ma buy that welder I've been puttin' off.
Inspiring and humbling. great work. |

Good luck man!
I remember my senior prom when I took my '62. I detailed the engine bay and my friends still remind me how we were all huddled around the engine checking it out while our dates were behind us waiting to go into the dance haha |
it was a blast! we made it in time, but the interior wasn't quite ready.. but we took out best entrance I couldn't have been happier.
heres some photos of the work I have been completing lately. most of the carpet in:

seat upholstery mostly done:

i would like to credit a few people/companies for their help through the build:
Mark Spriggs for all the fiddly bits, starter motor door parts.. (and he still wont tell me what beer he drinks!) thanks man
Simon (humpty) for the rear parcel shelf cut outs, saved me so much time
Alan from das dubbers for the engine mounts, even though i removed them asap, it was the thought that counts man.. (for sale: oval solid gearbox mounts..)
Stripped Bare blasting
geographe sand blasting (chassis, suspension, seat frames)
Hardings paint repairs Bunbury, these guys did an awesome job getting the bug in paint.
paint place bunbury, for all the fiddly paint things i needed.
Tmi for the interior
Vollks.com, Wolfsburgwest, cip1 classicveedubs
Airkewld in Cali for the lowering kit, disc brakes
my Brother, Mum and friends for puting up with my constant ramble about car shit.
Most of all though, thanks to my Dad for all the stuff hes taught me along the way, the kick in the arse when things got slow and the time we have spent fixing this beast up, love ya dad! _________________ 1967 Karmann Ghia (Resto in progress...)

Hey young 56 brother, You put together a really nice build history. I'm restoring two 56 rags, one rhd and one lhd. Other than the drive side. The rhd will finish original, for the most part. The lhd will Look the same as the rhd, but it will have a power plant in it. I'm going to run a 2234, efi, turbo in it, keeping the original 36 and split tranny on a shelf. The rhd will go to paint soon, agave with a tan rag. I will commence with the lhd when I'm finished with the first project. Our son is currently in Brisbane and will be home in four months, so that's my deadline. The rhd will be his to drive. regards |

Hey everyone, its been a fair while!
since my last post, a heap load of things have been going on. I'll try and fill you in with as much as possible. So since i last did an update, i graduated from my last year of school in 2013 (i also took out best entrance when i drove the oval to my school ball (prom), then worked a gap year in 2014 at an industrial supply shop, and at the start of this year i began a engineering degree at Curtin university in Perth, W.A. so yeah ive been pretty busy!
So now thats over lets see what has been happening in the shed.
We have fitted a 1800 type 4 motor to the oval with the following accessorys:
-CSP performance exhaust
-remote oil cooler-thermostat controlled fan
-jake raby DTM cooling kit
-custom tin ware
-twin IDF carbeurators
-billet stacks with micro filters
-cable throttle system
Plus a rancho pro street gearbox to handle the extra grunt.
I also managed to buy myself a cordless milwaukee FUEL kit from my old work, These tools are awesome!
Me and my family have really been enjoying this car, I drive it around my home town as much as possible and its a real head turner. its always an ongoing project like most projects. I have gotten into 4x4's lately, Owned a couple of land rover discoverys but unfortunately had to sell them due to moving up to perth to study, Although i have recently started a new Discovery project that is starting from the ground up.. It will most likely take a fair while. Other than that, we have also started doing the rust repair on my mothers 1967 Karmann Ghia, which is currently the main VW project in the shed. Although, this project is highly dependent on the time i have off from my studys, on the back burner you could say. I'll keep everyone posted and im keen to hear your thoughts! _________________ 1967 Karmann Ghia (Resto in progress...)

Hey Everyone! wow its been a while since i posted. The Bug is running sweet we have really just been enjoying driving it. Im 21 now, Prom was a while ago
It looks like quite a few photos have dissipated from this thread, i am not sure as to how this happened.
Nothing has really changed on the vehicle, it has however been slightly raised to aid driving it around our cr#ppy roads in the south west of Western Australia.
I will be attending a local Car show and camp festival, it should be a lot of fun and i promise to take some photos and upload them here.
Cheers guys. _________________ 1967 Karmann Ghia (Resto in progress...)

Awesome job on your oval! I have a 56 that I put a Cali-built T4 into a few yrs back and am now building a 1911 with a DTM shroud to replace it with. Judging from your pics I don't think the DTM will allow my decklid to close flush due to the alternator being higher and further back. I also notice the oil cooler is missing of the DTM shroud, will this not fit in the oval engine bay or did you relocate it for other reasons. My Cali unit did fit but it was wicked tight. My sync-link also would not fit on the right carb as the pulley hit the apron area.
