Here in Kanada, the grail is Canadian custom zwitter sunroof. None exist as far as I know... but if you look at the pic of the cars arriving in Toronto in '52 there appears to be one in the lower left corner.

The only known '53 Canadian custom sunroof:

i am restoring a german 56 ragtop standard oval.
Even the standard version could be ordered in every colour available in that year, but most of them were sold with one of the 3 standardcolours.
The Ragtophandle were chromed, so the ring of the handle was (the picture of the golde handle is from my oval, and the black ring is wrong).
Chrome trim could also be ordered.
Door handles and winders were nonchrome
The wipers were black
Tailpipes were black
Windowframes in front (Ausstellfenster) were painted in car-colour
The german version had non hydraulic brakes
Most of the semaphores were black, but i heard of some that were painted.

I also think that the canadian standard is more a deluxe than a standard. Only the interieur looks the same.

The thing why most european standards donīt have these things is only the price. The people often donīt had enough money to order extras, the people that had the money - ordered an export (deluxe).

The ragtop was very expensive, and thatīs the reason why ragtop standards are hard to find.

Standard ovals rock!!!

I am going to start the restoration of my sunroof European standard, built in September 1953. The model code designation for the car is 11E, conforming to the codes applied before 1954.
Do you know which information about the 1956 model are also valid for early oval? (for instance semaphore and wiper color?).

Here is one of the rare picture I have found of this model:

Sorry that i didnīt reply earlyer, i had a long time not logged in here.
Your question about the semaphores is not exactly cleared. there were cars with black ones and cars where they were painted in car color. but i think they normaly were black.

Some more on late 1200s

Hello,

I have a RHD UK spec 1968 1200 model Beetle that I posted on another thread in the late Beetle section - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6426799#6426799

Someone on there pointed me towards this thread and I have just read through it... I found it very interesting Smile

If any of you are interested, these are some of the features of how my Beetle left the factory... I'm sure you know most of this anyway:

Body:
Early heater channels
Bonnet pull under dash
Late bonnet with no vents or chrome
Decklid with no vents
Running boards with no trim
No chrome in window rubbers
Blade bumpers
Painted quarter light frame and indicator housings
Early rear lights
4 stud, drums all around, swing axle long axle.
No mirror on passenger side door

Interior:
Speedo with no fuel gauge - early style
67 rear view mirror - black
Low back seats with no locking mechanism
Painted door handles
Door handles similar to dash grab handle
No chrome on dash
Main beam switch behind pedals
1200 steering wheel - no D horn push
Small headliner

Not sure if it would have come with a single sun visor or a pair.

Old pic to show interior - note door pulls and seats with no locking mechanism. I added chrome to dash, that will be back to standard once finished, and has the wrong steering wheel

I not sure if the profile is the same but you can get split window rubber from Wolfsburg west and make a rear one out of an extra quarter window or a windshield rubber and glue together. That's what I plan to do on my 54 standard.

Thought I would add this, looks like Canadian verts got the vinyl top a year earlier than everyone else and it confirms the gas heater as standard

No ,

L37 middle blue, or L225 jupiter gray.
This is the list that was sent to me with my birth certificate.
Maybe a special order?

Here is my Model 111, I am waiting to get my certificate to find original colour.

Its a LHD West German Built Euro Standard, Im guessing the chrome trim was a special order. Its 1959, it also has the light beige steering wheel, handbrake and door levers. The interior trim is not original but I believe all of the above are, so Im a little confused as none of this matches up to a standard.

Anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks[/img]

Because on the VIN Identification Plate it states its a Model 111, doesn't this mean its a LHD Euro standard? Reading other threads on here it does. Apologies if I've misunderstood. I totally agree with you, looking at it I would never of said it was a standard myself!
