I've been on the lookout for a panel for about a year. I heard through Chad, aka the "BBQ boss" that this panel might be for sale from a mutual friend in Jax Beach. I remember this panel being listed on the samba a couple of months ago in the SW of the US. It was shipped from New Mexico to Jacksonville in September and was stored until I bought it.
Here some pics from the warehouse it was stored in:

In order to get it driving we had to swap out the exhaust and bleed the brakes. In addition to that we needed to figure out how to move Chucks 1966 panel that was up in the air.
So a quick trip to harbour freight and four wheel dollies later we were able to put his panel on the ground and move it out of the shop to drive the Creamcicle out.

The original is L345 light grey. It looks like it is still under the orange. However, it also looks like the rockers have had some repair work to them. As much as I'd like to strip it back I may just prep it for a fresh coat of paint. Still mulling it over. _________________ WTB Brundage Motors - Jacksonville, Fla Plate Frame

A coupe of interesting items to note. It is a low light 1958. It came with big bumpers. Wrong decklid and apron.
Also, it was hammered on a narrowed KCW beam. I could barely put my fingers between the tire and seat bottom of the bus. IRS rear end and bay window gas tank. Fuel gauge was added as well as a 1776 engine with dual Kadrons. _________________ WTB Brundage Motors - Jacksonville, Fla Plate Frame

It was a short 2-3 mile drive home from the shop to my house. My first observations, also disclosed from the seller, were that the steering box was way to tight and had some slop in it. The bus did come with an extra box and 2 fat lip dog legs. Someone in the past trimmed the dog legs to make them thin lipped. In addition, the front tires bottomed out a couple of times on the way home.
The bus had a slight rake to the front.... _________________ WTB Brundage Motors - Jacksonville, Fla Plate Frame

Got the bus insured yesterday, got a VIN verification to certify the numbers all match the title and headed down to the tax collector with my 1958 YOM tag. Had a minor snafu with the title due to the New Mexico owner signing the title in the wrong place. 2 faxes and an hour later the bus title was finally transfered to Florida.
By the time I got home with the title, Robert and Chad were already at it putting the "Chad" detailing treatment on it.
It was interesting to see the panel did not receive a rear view mirror but did come with 2 harp mirrors with nice west coast mirrors added on later.
Here's Chad removing them:

Yep. We did raise it 2 notches and that got rid of the rake. The panel will be splitting daily driver status with my 356. My commute is about 30 miles each way. Once the panel is repainted L345 I am contemplating putting our catering business logo's on it. Still not sure though, I may just wrap it...Been playing with bus selecta for ideas. _________________ WTB Brundage Motors - Jacksonville, Fla Plate Frame

Still got it. May be putting it up for sale. First up though, selling the 1965 13W. Need to consolidate. _________________ WTB Brundage Motors - Jacksonville, Fla Plate Frame

Damn Robert, any chance I could get you to come down to G-ville with some of that Splitty lovin' elbow grease?
^^^^^^Is this OG paint? ^^^^^
Lookin' nice Mark. My vote is re-paint with your Catering biz logo stickered on for removal if needed. Congrats on the new addition to the stable. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25

Weird, my vin is 340XXX and has high tail lights and a flat lid. _________________

| Maybe the corners were replaced? There seems to be other body parts that weren't "correct". |

Nice bus!
My buddy Fred and I are resurrecting an L345 Panel this winter as well.
Fred's is a Oct of 58 build but has high tail lights.
There appears to be a lot of features about your bus that point to 59 model year.
It has low tail lights, that started in late Dec of 58, indent front cargo door, eyebrow decklid and L345 paint which was not available until August of 58.
Kinda weird
Does it have a body number or M-Code plate? _________________ The plural of anecdote is not data |
