The green oil light on a friend's car stays on continually, even after the ignition is shut off. He has to disconnect the battery to stop it. Is it a bad sending unit? Thanks, Mike

The oil light can only turn with the key.

I'm wondering if it's the generator light and he has the generator and oil lights swapped.

If the generator light is on, there is a regulator issue and it will drain the battery.

If "friend's" VW has an alternator as opposed to a generator, suspect that.
