That engine was soo smooth! The jetting as perscribbed from John at Air Cooled on the "how to make a progressive work" thread hit it dead on. After we timed it, it would spike to 5G in a heart beat.
Counterweighted and balanced crank, Balanced rods with ARP 2000 bolts, 8 dowelled crank and forged lightened flywheel, balanced pistons, Silver Line Steel backed bearings, W110 Engle cam and lifters, new stock ported heads, SVDA and a Progressive carb. Very nice responsive set up.
We broke it in on 116 octane race fuel. The garage smelled nice!
As a side note, the Silver Line bearings had to be hand worked to fit the crank with proper clearance. It is getting harder to find properly manufactured bearings. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Really enjoying your build, I've been watching it since you started and it's great to see it coming together.
I'm in the middle of my own build and I was wondering what brand of sealer/gasket maker you used to between the body and the chassis? Thanks and keep up the good work!

Also with the assistance of joescoolcustoms I put down sealer that is used on new glassed lined water tanks to seal between the pan and the 1" x 2" body lift.
This sealer sets up like a rubber gasket and very spongy when it sets up. Not at all like silicone.

I used a sealer used in Water/Wastewater bolt together tanks. Sealer sets up like a gasket. Good stuff will last 50 years +. Got a case of this from a contractor working for me.....Left overs
Here is the brand and a phone number for the product.
Sealer no. 98 sc
part # 265777-203 black

Pulled the TRI Mill header off and sealed with Permatex Ultra Copper at the slip joints to keep the exhaust from leaking.
Ready to button up the wiring and start making the connections under the hood.
Installed the GPS antenna through the hood and installed the 1967-70 Chevrolet truck fuel neck grommet and the Norton motorcycle flip top gas cap.
Everthing is working now. Speedhut GPS speedo with fuel gauge working great. Flashers /High beam indicaters working.
Steering column installed.
Tach installed.

Go with Del Swift mirrors. Some of the early Imp kits came with them. You can even use them as a radio antennae because they have threaded ends for co-axial cable.
I believe they still sell Del Swift mirrors brand new or keep your eye out on eBay. I bought a spare mirror last winter for $12 on eBay.
In the Empi manual, they want you to mount the mirror on the top of the fender similar to a Datsun Z. I have heard horror stories that if you do not add supports under the fender that they can get stress cracks. I mounted mine on the side of the hood and I think it looks better anyways.

btonns, hey - what kind of chrome bumper is that in your pic? Looks like the Empi or Latest Rage #707150, double chrome that comes with two mounting plates and 4 bolts. Two steel plates go behind the torsion tubes and the bolts go thru the braces, between the torsion tubes, and thru the backer plates.
I just bought one from LR via Competitive Motor Sports for $54. It's jacked to the driver's side off-center by about 2". Do you have that problem? |

Very close to the Delswift mirrors. I purchased these on eBay for around $30.00 for the pair. Stainless Steel/ fender mounts. I just made a aluminum bracket and used the standard windshield mount. Very sturdy...do not worry about stress cracks or paint damage.
I think you wanted your comments to go to JB69Imp... but this was where I was at on my build.

This is definitely the fun part of the build.....adding all the new and painted accessories for the buggy.
1) Painted and installed the front bumper.
2) Painted and installed the Rear Bumper/cage.
3) License plate frame and wiring for the LED light.
4) Made a bracket for the Pass. side mirror.
Big THANKS out to joescoolcustoms for the bending skills/talent on the custom bumpers and roll cage......Sweeeeeeeet!! |

Almost ready for the MOTB. Threw together a temporary rear seat pad and back. Do not have enough time left to get the matching rear seats done. They will have to wait until after the MOTB weekend. Also mounted a fire extinguisher just in case....

I am planning on using 914 seats myself. From your pictures I see that we are close to the same size guy. Are you happy with them? Fit, support, etc. Looks like your mounting method got them as low as is realistically possible too. Without radical pan modifications anyway. Great job. _________________ BIGMIKEY
