I am currently working on a combination front brake backing plate and CV protector mount. Made from stainless steel and with a replaceable protector flap, easily made from a large truck mud flap.

Both of these products use the same mounting location.

the drawings of the mettle work, mine were made by hand so the radius cuts were not easy to do so the were cut on straight, if a batch were to be made then it would be worth getting them lazer or water jet cut and the fold them.

here you go.

They are easy to install. They go between the spindle and the backing plate and don't take much time(depending on the rust level of the van)

As of yesterday afternoon i've got most of the front end tore down to replace all bushings and such. Not one stubborn bolt. The only hint of rust i've found was on one of the tie rod ends. And it just scratched off with my fingernail.
I was planning to sandblast and paint (or powdercoat) while everything was apart. But after a good cleaning everything looks good again..
The front end is going back together with new lobro cv's/axles, ball joints, bushings, Burley's upper control arms, and Cv protectors...

Powdercoating suspension sounds like a good idea until you realize that under the powder is freshly blasted raw metal ready to rust at any scratch through the powder. The OG treatment and paint lasts much longer than "improvements".

Now that I have diagrams, it's on my short list of things to build! Looks really easy and I just found a truck mudflap on the side of the road that will work perfect for this. Smile

Hey Hans, looks like it's a race Smile

I had a little bit of waiting around today and grabbed some stainless scrap, printed and stuck on diagram, and got at it. No brake, so bends done in vise, not crisp at all.

No fair, I just barely got off work!! Looks great though, I'm excited to build some! I have to find some stainless laying around though. I do have some aluminum I can use, but would rather have stainless.

I like the idea of sticking the diagram to the metal though! I would have just markered it on. Interested to see how the bolts line up with the backing plate holes. I don't have backing plates on mine as they were rusted off completely, but at least I cleaned up my threads before install.
