These are both very nice Syncro 16 Single cabs that are currently for sale on vw-tristar.com.
Patrik will be able to fill you in with the details.

Interestingley, I have photos of 21 of the 33 (I'm starting to wonder if there were more!) Syncro 16 Single Cabs.
That's a very good remainder of rare vans for a builders truck

I would expect more interest in Germany than the UK.

A few weeks ago there was a barn find lot of 8 syncro's for sale. As far as I was informed, they were from a Dutch dredging company.
1 panelvan, 1 16" doka and 6 sika of wich 2 are 16".
Not much pics, but there are two of the two 16" sika.
@MG, I have also already been wondering. What are the chances of finding so many of them considering they were commercial vehicles (after every day abuse written off concidered as scrap) instead of Italian sportscars. |

A fantastic find! It's great to see that they're still around.

I think you are on to something here. That seems like an incredible number to have photos of for a 25 year old vehicle that was typically sold to utility companies. Patrik's website (www.vw-tristar.com) shows 20 and another 6 possibles plus the two new barn finds and the one in the museum; 23 to 29 out of 33. Seems unlikely.
I wonder where the 33 number came from. _________________ 1986 Transporter Single Cab Syncro |

Good question. I expect that it's a figure that someone thought up.
I wonder if VW would be able to shine any light on the subject.

Oooops..sorry, I got sidetracked pulling the dash out of the Westy...
voila..16" steel wheels are at the powder coater, was German Army then
turned yellow by german contractor.
|
SO, I'm wondering if this is the same truck found/rescued from Bucks Auto Parts in the Galgary, Alberta area that I just brought home... sounds like it from the descriptions of it being a "army green truck then turned yellow by german contractor"?
Sergio is listed as being in a town very very close to Bucks Auto Parts....
Did you drop this off after robing it of 16" parts Sergio?
Heres the truck in question:http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=641537&highlight=bucks+auto |

The chassis number doesn't match the vehicle. Also, there is damage on the chassis tag around the rivets which suggests that it's been removed from another vehicle by a grinder.
The year and place of manufacture are wrong for a Syncro.
The last time I saw this on a Syncro, I asked for photos of the stamped in chassis number (underneath the B-pillar). The owner sent me photos.
There was a lot of underseal around where the chassis number plate met the rest of the body so I asked for him to scrape off all of the underseal and sure enough, as he did this he found weld marks where the plate had been welded into the van. It had been stolen and given a new identity from a 2WD van.
Please take some photos of the stamped in chassis number. You can send them to me at [email protected] if you don't want them on the net.
