Ok the barndoor forum has this so lets start one for ALL cars.
Ok as my friends know I LOVE building the cars people call "parts cars", the roughest, ugliest, most unloved cars out there.....My lowlight will show that when I post it.....
Having said that, who thinks they have the rustiest, roughest, most hacked car they are currently restoring or even plan on restoring? Im talking complete front and rear clips, all new lower 6", whole roof clip grafts, wreck redos, 9 layers of horrible paint/rust etc.....some of us have to build what we can afford.
...and dont post pics of rusty cars that you see in fields/woods unless you own and are restoring it. _________________ 1957 Lowlight

from this in 2008...
to this in 2011
but believe it or not, the bodywork was somewhat solid. i only had to source parts from 13 countries and change dash, doors, fenders, rear lid, rear window clip, apron, dash, and all the split correct parts. will follow: engine, transmission, brakes, front beam ... and wheels _________________ 1960 1200 model 117 deluxe ragtop

My '53 Zwitter is going to take some love:
(As I found it in december. It was rescued from a scrapyard in 1967, then left in a barn, which collapsed, and then ditched in the forest since 2002.)
I have my work cut out for me. _________________ '60 Canadian Standard, '64 Bug, another '64 Bug, '66 Bug, '69 Sunroof Bug, '69 GT3 Bug, '71 Super, '72 Super, '73 Canadian Custom, '74 Love Bug, '83 Mexi Bug, '85 Cabrio, '94 Mexi Bug, '99 New Beetle, '02 New Beetle Turbo S, '03 New Beetle VR6. Not the worst I've seen, PO patched up floors and rust with fiberglass and bondo, could stick my hand thru heat channels on both sides.
4 years of learning to weld in my spare time I am here.
Hopefully this year will be the year it starts running. Lets call it a "well" perserved east coast car... _________________ For my amateur build... http://61vdub.blogspot.com |

Here is mine right after I hauled it home from a farmers field in very rural Pennsylvania....
Check out the non-existent passenger floorpan and heater channel...

I think it's funny too that despite everything else, there are still at least 2 hubcaps still on the rims. |

Why would you tackle a car so far gone as some of the ones shown here? (I'm not bashing; I'd love to have one to fix like that!) |
Some of us like the challenge.
Some of us have no choice because of where we live, the availability of good cars may be slim.
Some of us that have the skills would prefer to do it this way because to us in the end it may be cheaper ( I said may) and we know what went into the car so there are no surprises. I'm in this category with my '62 ragtop.
Others may do it for sentimental reasons where money s no object.
My line of thought is if the project was gotten for next to nothing (or nothing) then its worth dumping money into it.
I cant believe how many people hack up perfectly good cars that they think are too far gone. Us east coast guys basically start with a good roof and work our way down to the wheels. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"
