Is that a good deal?
The car looks to be in great shape; has just over 200k miles on it. As far as I know the only problems are that the horn and a turn signal doesn't work; and the battery probably needs to be replaced as it's constantly in need of a jump to get started.
A friend of mine just drove it from Tampa to Nashville without a problem. |

It's a $500 car. If you get 6 months out of it, it's worth it. _________________ 59 Single Cab, 64 Type II, A3 GLX, A4 GLS, B5 GLS |

Check the oil to see how clean it is and its level. Check all other fluids while you're at it. Give it a test drive for yourself. That long drive could be a good sign or the proverbial final nail.
Then, check for rust in structural areas, previous damage, and a clear title by someone who is properly allowed to sell you the car. I would invest in a CarFax even though the car is only $500.
If it all checks out, then it sounds like a good buy ... but ... be prepared to still invest major dollars into it. Spending a grand on a new timing belt, etc. would be a good start. _________________ '09 Eos Komfort ... '97 Vento GT ... '02 Golf GLS TDI

All of the advise above is ridiculous.
500 is cheap for a 2.0 Jetta. If its a running tdi how bout you buy it and drive it to me so you can double your money. I'd give a grand sight unseen for a running tdi.
Sorry to call you out but why waste money on car faxing a 500.00 car that's 14 years old with over 200k on it? Buy the sucker and if its not what you're looking for, no biggie! Someone will pay you more later. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb
