I picked up a 69 Square a few years ago in downtown Detroit with thoughts of making a slammed panel. Promised myself I would not start on it until after I finish the Sled, so it has just sat for that last few years. At the end of last year, my youngest son Ethan turned 16 and decided he would like to start working on the 69 and use it as his driver when he gets his license.

We dragged it out of the corner of the garage and he started digging into. It is in pretty good shape overall, but the front end is pretty rusted out.

I scored some really nice rear fenders for it last year...

Fast forward to this past week....

Had a good friend send me a link to some NOS Type 3 inner fenders that were local to me. Sent an e-mail and set up a time to pick them up today. Turns out he also had a good used passenger front fender that I needed for the 69 Square.

These panels will save me and Ethan significant time getting the 69 Square on the road.

The fender is a 68, but will work great....it is even the same color as the car.

Guy is a local VW legend. Had multiple buildings jammed to the roof with stuff. Will definitely call him as I find other parts I need.

John, have fun, and teach him how to weld. Make sure he gets HIS hands dirty too. Wink
Are those inners for the 69? I didn't think it needed inners, but then being tucked against the back wall of your shop, it was hard to tell. Should be a good diversion project for both of you. Cool
