I like my Taurus 24/7 pro C 9mm. |
Good looking weapon. I commented on my G30s because Ray was speaking of needing smaller than his G21. The G30s is also .45 and holds 10+1 in a fairly small weapon. (Glock classifies it as subcompact). I usually grab my G26 if I want to carry 9mm, my G27 if I'm feeling like a .40, or the G30s for .45. All subcompacts and easy to carry and conceal.

My dad bought a Ruger LCP, but it was too small for his hands (and mine). He now has the Ruger LC9. Excellent choice. |
I bought the LC9 for my wife a few years back.. Not fond of the long trigger pull. It might get replaced by the newly released LC9s which is Rugers answer for the folks that like the pistol but not the long trigger pull. The s model is striker fired _________________

Another good choice for a comfortable to carry/easy to shoot weapon is the 9mm Makarov, official sidearm of the former eastern block countries.

I mistakenly threw several hundred pieces of 9x18 brass into my bucket of 9mm luger brass.... What a pita when it was time to load up some ammo. _________________

Wow. Quite a few folks here seem to be very anxious to meet violence with even more violence. Has anyone considered considered " carrying your wits" as an alternative??? Doesn't sound like it. Flame suit on here. _________________ Jack Staggs

You obviously haven't taken the time to read through this thread. "Situational avoidance" was a big topic, as it should be. Violence is an absolute last resort.
No flames necessary. Just honest, open discussion. _________________ nothing |

I'm not anxious to change a flat tire late at night, but I carry a jack, spare tire, and a flashlight. I'm not anxious to have automobile crashes, but I wear my seatbelt at all times. I'm not anxious to die, but I have life insurance. I'm not anxious to........ You get the picture _________________

1 1/2 years ago my wife left and moved in with another man. Last year this time he called me and threatened my life. I have a court order preventing contact, but that's just a piece of paper.
I finally got my concealed carry permit.....and a Remington 1911R1. Loaded with hollow points.
Because when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. _________________ I'm not losing my hair, it's just retired and relocating further south.

Then he said "I've been shot before!" which was answered with "Not where I'm going to shoot you!" and the problem lost some of it's significance. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.

I'm a horriblè shot with my Barrett 50 but since I get a mile head start on my potential perp, it's just an ammo capacity problem. _________________ .ssS! |

Actually they can. If you only had a bat in your car, it can be considered a weapon. But if you also have a glove and ball, then it's sporting equipment.
Walking down a dark alley at night with a pair of socks in your pockets? The cops around here told me they can get a conviction for that. The socks are considered "tools of break-and-enter" since normal people don't carry socks in their pockets. _________________

Surprizing thread.
We live in a different world.
Here, carrying a weapon is not legal unless it's a hunting gun, discharged, with permit, only during hunting season.
I don't remember any "Columbine college disaster" during my whole life.
I agree, when you are surrounded by weapon carriers, you would like to carry one too, but violence brings violence.
In my van I carry a "machete", officially for wood splitting.
I used it only once for frightening. Efficient enough in my mind. |

Columbine is/was a High School, not a College.
On a different note, my son & I just went target shooting w/ my Dad's old 30.06, I can recall him refinishing the Stock to a deep Cherry Red when I was a kid. _________________ Tom

My apologies, I added Columbine afterward. That does not change the meaning anyway. |

The above demonstrates your feeling of a " need" to have a weapon for self defense, should the need arise. Your choice of weapon is based on what is available to you. Seems you are not as different from "us" as you've attempted convince us you are. _________________

When I was younger, I'd tackle a bear with a small switch, BUT as I get older, and older, and older, the idea of having to face off with a group of young punks just doesn't fall into the same realm of fun that it use to --
When you 'get' into that situation, and usually it is not of your choosing, a weapon is whatever you can get your hands on, and for me it is never been to even up the odds, it is move the odds heavily in my favor --- I've used a bat (against 4 guys wanting my work truck), a 16" crescent wrench (against 2 guys demanding my money) -- in both cases, my willingness to defend myself made both groups back down from their demands and walk away, with them doing the usual verbal posturing of course, but walking away never the less -- as I get older, the more I want to carry a weapon,-- because a 60 year old dude with a big stick just seems to be more funny than threatening _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

I also am from Pa., as seanboy69 said, I carry either my 9mm Makarov, or a very small Ruger LC9. Been in a bad situation a few times in my 63 years, never had to actually use the Makarov. I also agree that situational awareness is very important, I always take 2 minutes to look around any area I am not very familiar with. |
