Anybody have a clue what this thing is? AJ case, no idea what it was in before I got it.

Sensor from early 1970s engines for diagnosis. Just leave it there.

As above, it's the Top dead center sensor for the dealership diagnosis system.

no, OBD is on board diagnostics, the vw testplug in the engine bay gave the vw dealership somewhere to plug in their crude computer to check a few variables on the engines as they were running...
