I did do some searching on this issue but really need help. I am trying to install the headliner and am confused with how the rear piece of the center section and the front piece of the rear section come together. The front of the rear section has carboard sewn in and holes punched and the rear of the center sections looks as if it is sandwiched between the two. There is a metal band or strap with a lip on one side and holes that correlate to the roof but am unsure how the whole works goes together. any tips, hints or pics would be greatly apppreciated.. Thanks, Dave

For the life of me I can't remeber what I did. I did a gallery search, maybe there's a pic that will help. I believe the front of the rear piece wraps around that metal strip and then it clips to the body. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

You put door panel clips in the holes fold it under and snap them into the holes, you'll need to use a scribe to punch through the material thats glued on to get it in easier.I ain'nt the worlds cleanest ragtop and headliner installer but have done two of them.Did'nt turn out too bad.
Those with the cardborad strip lay flater then the plastic ones.Sometimes it gets all wavie from the tight pull on it and looks crappy.I used a thin strip of aluminum one time, punched holes so it would be a little stiffer.
not my work but found this pic in the gallery...

ClassicVWBugs.com offers an excellent 130-minute DVD entitled "Ragtop Beetle Headliner Installation". I just bought it, it is well worth the $24.95.
