got the brackets all figured out on the condensers- missing 2 (1 for trans mount cradle and 1 long outside bracket to the body near the shock) i then tried fitting it up, and then realizied that my camber compensator willbe in the way, was able to flip thte front bracket that bolts up to the trans nose cone nount bolts and will have to adjust some other brackets, but it will sit nice and clear of the axles now instead of under them.
one thing that sucks is one pipe has a crack near the fitting so that will have to be soldered at an a/c repair shop. anyhow, heres some pics of the way the brackets all go IN SITU on the car

well the primary condenser was damaged in shipping - (SON OF A B#($*), so i went about repairing it.
I swagged some 3/8 inch copper pipe and then cut it down and grinded down the other end so i had some home made reducer fittings. they slipped in the original thin 3/8 inch pipe, and the fitting slipped inside
then I soldered up the joints and pressure tested it- ready for a new lease on life in my convertible. heres some pics. ill have to take one of the finished condenser. next step is to soda blast the whole outside clean, and repaint the motor and brackets- then it will be all ready for installation.

I have a A/C system in my car... I am just reading this post and (By the way were I live is really Hot city) for experience this type of condenser are no very effective! If you can buy a condenser mexican style who is installed in the backside of the car is better, is a most effective installation and you can find this part original and new. _________________ Bug 1959 |

I have the originals now, but tell me more about these Mexican ones! |
It is a big condenser installed in the backside of the car, the only modification is two holes that you have to drill one in the air intake of the motor compartment and is the entry for cool air of the fan and the other one is in the floor for the hot air out of the condenser.
Sorry I do not have any photos of my system as soon as I am can, I take a couple of shots, so you can see how the system works. _________________ Bug 1959 |

ahhh ok you have the parcel shelf system. sounds nice to keep it kinda hidden, but i like the under dash unit better. i like the a/c to blow on me directly! _________________ Official 58-60 "Early Big Window" Convertible Thread & Registry

Remember the condenser in your car is this.
And the evaporator (where the cool air blow) is this.
My condenser is installed behind the backseat (Sorry still no photos) _________________ Bug 1959 |

Yes I'm very aware of what the condenser and evaporator are and how it all works now. The system you have is all in one spot and is called a package shelf system, like in Mexican beetles. _________________ Official 58-60 "Early Big Window" Convertible Thread & Registry

That would be the old JC penny selfcontained kits that sit in the parcel tray.
I've posted the link to the old mag Ive got on them somewhere in this thread already I think.
Some setups like Mexican a/c have the condenser mounted to the firewall and the engine fan pulls air through it.
Theres a Japanese import beetle getting around here with original dealer fitted A/C that has the same setup.
Stupid idea as it loads the engine up even more but it works.

Hey Bret,
What was the final outcome with your car? Did you get it installed and working yet? _________________ Wanted:

Today i went to the bodyshop where my car is being restored and stayed there just looking at the dash.... I really like it the way it looks! So i dicided to use the oval speaker grill as the exit for the fresh air.
By doing that i have another thing to think about..... <placing the evaporator in the bonet area i´ll have to make a ventilation gridd on the bonnet for the air outside the car can get into the system to be cooled... |
