Yep. I've ordered a pair. They're supposed to ship this week, I think. |
Indeed - will be collected over 2 hours - I hope to have the first sets out tomorrow morning

calibrating against a kitchen bench? lol
see if you can hire one from an engineer or some one like that.
Anyways looks like u have a problem somewhere if you can visually see the difference in camber. Is the control arm angles the same on both sides? |
You could also give the iphone handy level app a go?

I have that same app on my android phone. I tried it before I bought the little red level. The problem was the volume buttons are in the way and the phone would keep buzzing as the volume turned the phone to vibrate.
I need one of these:

I pulled 'new' beam out of the truck tonight and had a revelation as to my camber problem. It's been in front of my face this whole time.
I immediately noticed how straight the other beams tie rods were. Look at this tie rod. I guess I just thought it was supposed to have that bend there. It's right where it goes over the frame head, so I thought it's supposed to be there to clear it. Doh.
So if the car was hit there, hit a gutter, or whatever it was enough to bend the tie rod. I'm assuming something else bent and that's why I can't get my camber right. Here's the replacement.

I realize that, but how did it get bent? _________________ 69 Fastback Build (Doris) |

That's what I was suggesting. And something else bent as well which is messing with the camber.
$65 isn't too bad. I have 195's up front, 205's in the back. _________________ 69 Fastback Build (Doris) |

Brent- I should warn you about that site that I linked...don't go snooping around in the brake section, you might end up with nice shiny new brembo brake setup |
Too late, I already snooped when I saw the modded drop spindles Clatter did. I just need to get this thing back together first as my budget is already blown big time.
My wife promises to buy me a Square if/when I restore her Ghia. One car at a time. I'm just meddling in the darkside now, but someday (in a few years)... I've been dreaming up the perfect car. That would be a good thread. _________________ 69 Fastback Build (Doris) |

I emailed him yesterday and then again today to give him all the measurements for the tie rods as he makes them to order. US and CDN are equal right now, so it's a pretty good deal.
I got the other beam tore apart tonight and will get out the blaster tomorrow to clean everything up. I'll take some pictures of my method of internal cleaning. The beam was totally original, I think the couple inches of grease saved it from rusting. Once I got all the grime off, you can see all the factory yellow paint over all the tie rod and ball joint nuts. Bump stops are perfect. I think I'll just use the entire beam instead of fitting the control arms into my other one. Then I know that there's no mismatch of wear in the bearing/bushings. Getting these parts cleaned up and painted should work out perfect with the arrival of my drop spindles.
Also, Jim Adney has some rear torsions from an IRS square for me. I don't really want to tear into the subframe again, but it will be easier now than later. _________________ 69 Fastback Build (Doris) |

I will love to see your new tie rods when you get them. If all good I will place an order for them too.
I never thought about about til now but stock tie rods with 205 tires, massive vented brakes and 300-400 hp suby engine is not likely going to take such a punishment. |

awesome news on everything dude!
Sweet, it should be easier for me to buy those tie rods since your giving him all the specs, I'm going to be ordering them real soon.
I'm getting the IRS subframe in the tomorrow or the next day, $25 heck ya! I'm hoping the later model stuff uses the long torsion bars so I can swap in my 24.5mm 944 torsions. If not i'll be on the hunt for some 944 ones since i'll be using 944 arms. _________________ http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y163/chucky1974/ninja.gif

If I were to do it over I'd use a swing axle subframe and weld in the IRS arms. Then you'd have the horns and IRS. I've already painted it all pretty and just don't want to go do it over.
So, since I'm already talking about beefy tie rods, I emailed Lanner tonight about a kafer setup like what ISP used to make. Might be able to fit that one in the 'budget'. Man, I just need to add a T4 engine now! ...next car.
$25 is an awesome deal! I think the Square torsions are 23.5mm, so pretty close to the 944. Not sure about the length though, I know swing axle and IRS are different, 24" vs. 29"??? I'm not quite sure. _________________ 69 Fastback Build (Doris) |
